Life is too short to not wear the dress 👏🏻

When I was in college, I was told that in order to get an engineering job and be taken seriously, I needed to wear an all black pants suit and flats. No color. No heels. No ME.

After my first career fair event where I DID wear that (and was very uncomfortable in my own clothes the whole time) I said a big ✨hell no✨ and promptly wore dresses, colorful blazers, heels - the whole works - to all the other career fairs and professional events I attended.

You know what that got me? Yep, an engineering job at the largest defense contractor in the world.

But then when I started my career, I started to feel uncomfortable wearing the “girly girl” stuff I normally felt comfortable in. I already stood out like a sore thumb (read: blonde, female, you get the picture), and I lacked the confidence to truly just be me in that environment.

Fast forward to now. I’ve gained the confidence back (and more!) and now wear whatever the hell I want to wear in professional settings! Pink blazer? Sign me up. Sparkly nails at conferences? Absolutely. Heels? 100%.

Sparkly space-themed ball gowns to a gala at Kennedy Space Center? YES. Did I stick out? Yes, in a good way ☺️

Wear the dress. Wear those heels. Buy that pink blazer you’ve been eyeing up.

Life is too short to not be you, no matter what environment you’re in.
