There's no balance to be had.
Life comes first, full stop.
When my elderly father had a heart attack that sent him to the hospital a few years back, my wife and I were on the first plane out to see him.
No one said, “Hey wait Belal, what about tomorrow's 3pm team meeting?“
No prospect said, “Hey wait Belal, I thought you were going to send me that proposal. Can you do that before you go?“
Everything work related took a back seat.
I didn't respond to anything from my work for 3 full days and you know what?
Nothing happened.
It was okay.
All of it was there waiting for me when I got back.
My father came first.
Life comes first.
Work isn't even a close second.
Your work is meaningless without your life and affairs in order.
Never conflate the two.
