I worked with a 22 year old who learned to code.

I was 30 when I first learned how to code.

One of my friends was 46 when he made the transition into a software engineering position.

I worked with an INCREDIBLE 60 year old woman who was a front end dev.

You are right on time.

Javascript is used in all areas of development now. Even machine learning! I personally think all languages are great but this is why I specifically guide beginners down the path of Javascript. Most tech stacks involve Javascript but it is a great language to start with to find what you really want to do and you can continue to go down that learning path.

I remember when trying to get my first job in tech I finally found one company that I just absolutely loved. It aligned with everything I was looking for. I killed the interview. EVERY round.

Made it to the final round, killed that interview, even had the director LAUGHING with me. He ended the interview saying “You will definitely be hearing from us!“ and patted me on the back. I never felt so happy. I got home and literally told my entire family “Gas station days are over!“ I was so geeked out. I started cooking steaks and poured drinks. It was AMAZING.

2 hours later
I got a phone call.

They... They didn't want me. My mind was literally racing. They kept talking but it was just sounds at that point, nothing that I could understand. My face immediately dropped, I couldn't string words together. I became so pale I could give Casper the ghost a run for his money. Put my phone down on the kitchen counter, couldn't even find the strength to turn off the stove, and walked like a zombie to my bed. I laid in that bed for 2 days.

I had never been so sick in my life. One of the first times in my life I had ever called out of work. My eyes could only see that director's smile, it was so warm. It was a good reminder that a warm smile can also burn.

LITERALLY, the best thing that NEVER happened to me. Not even a week later I was in the interview which ended up becoming my first job in tech which led to everything that came out after.

I am a big believer that sometimes the universe SEES things, HEARS things, or WITNESSES things that you may not have seen and it removes it from you, maybe even painful in the moment but it may be what you NEED vs what you WANT.

Shared this with a bootcamp in their discord so I figured I would share it here as well. Hope you got value out of this.

Programming CAN be your ticket to a better life. It took me out of a gas station and put me behind a computer.

I'm not saying it is easy because it isn't. Programming is hard! BUT I AM saying it is possible!

Take your time, Be consistent, Focus on concepts!
You absolutely got this!
