Mom fell last night …

I heard a thud, the house shook a bit and both the dog and I were shook.

I walked into her room and she was on the floor.

She just looked at me confused.

I asked, “are you ok?”

Her answer, “I don’t know.”

I said, “How’d you fall?”

Her answer, “I don’t know”.

I looked on the back of her head where she kept rubbing and there was a contusion.

I said, “What did you hit your head on?”

You know the response, “I don’t know.”

I said, “Let me help you up.”

Just after midnight we were on our way to the ER.

In the car she said, “What would of happened if you weren’t here.”

My answer, “I don’t know.”

Just a reminder - you just being there in your loved ones lives is enough to make a huge impact.

It may not be a physical fall, might be mental, and we all need someone there to say, “let me help you up.”

You got this!

“You cannot keep your head down with a crown on.”

This gift arrived the other day for mum … and this was the quote sent with it.

The sender …

Nicole, a friend from high school who I have not seen in decades.

She’s been following my mum’s journey through my posts and asked for my address.

I gave it and then asked why.

Here’s what she told me.

“I was six months sober when my Mom passed away.

She grew up doing beauty pageants and always would win Miss Congeniality.

Growing up, whenever I was down, she’d always tell me:

‘You cannot keep your head down with a crown on.’

So I’d raise my chin and always feel better.

When she passed, I had a crown placed on her urn.

2 weeks after, I finalized my divorce.

And I put one of her crowns on my head, picked my chin up and guess what … immediately felt better.

That was almost 6 years ago.

Every month, I put one on, and stand proudly with my head held high.

And now I give away 2 crowns a month to friends who need the reminder of how strong they are and to keep their heads up.

And they all feel immediately better.”

So when she told me that, I thought, aw, a cute plastic crown for kids would come…

Uh no, it’s heavy and it feels very legit.

My mom put it on, and I think the picture captures how she feels about the gift and sentiment.

Thank you Nicole - we love it and you!

And now I pass on her advice to you.

When you are down, put on a crown, and lift that chin up.

You got this!

And if you don’t, I got you. Reach out!!
