Your accent is a way to tell the world that you are full of stories from amazing places ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Never be ashamed of where you come from or whether you have an accent if English is not your first language...

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ I am from Mexico and when I moved to the U.S. to study, I was afraid it would be hard for me to get a job because of my accent.

๐Ÿ’Ž When I created my first video I was afraid that people would make comments about my accent.

๐Ÿ’ช One day I received a message that another fellow content creator was being bullied because of their accent and I realize that I was not alone in being afraid about this. It was my time to support them.

You are not alone, we are all here ๐Ÿ‘‹

If you are in another country speaking their language that is not your first one, you are already crushing it! Not only you had to learn the language but now you are studying and/or working in that other language! Keep rocking! ๐Ÿ‘Š

And now... my favorite quote from Modern Family that pretty much sums up this experience sometimes...

2023 has been an emotional rollercoaster, but I couldn't have wished for a better way to end it than joining Google as a Product Manager!

Halfway through 2023, I paused creating content to focus on my mental health (and my Google interviews!). Now that the year is wrapping up, I couldn't be more excited to have found a great team in an amazing company!

I will continue creating content to help more people interested in Tech and Product Management, so stay tuned for more! And for those struggling, reach out if you need help - many people around you care about you. Trust me, I learned it the hard way.

Thank you to those who have supported me along the way, I couldn't have done it without you ๐Ÿ˜Š!

By the way, if you are curious about how I prepared for my interviews, just check my profile ๐Ÿ‘‹

Here's how to find hiring managers on LinkedIn and the message you should send to stand out from the crowd:
.
.
.
.
๐Ÿ” Start by searching for the words: ๐ก๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  + โ€œ๐ฃ๐จ๐›โ€œ you are looking for. In my example below: ๐ก๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  + โ€œ๐๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐š๐ ๐ž๐ซโ€œ

๐Ÿ“ From the filter on the top left, select โ€œ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌโ€œ, this will show you who has recently used the phrases:
โ€œI'm ๐ก๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ...โ€œ
โ€œMy team is ๐ก๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ...โ€œ
โ€œX company is ๐ก๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ...โ€œ
and any other combination of words that include the word ๐ก๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  and โ€œ๐ฃ๐จ๐›โ€œ you filtered for.

โš™๏ธ Select the option โ€œ๐€๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ฅ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌโ€œ on the top right where you'll find the filter โ€œ๐€๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ซ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ง๐ฒโ€œ. Add whichever company or companies you are interested in. In my example below I chose Facebook.

โญ๏ธ voilร ! Now you know who is hiring ๐Ÿ˜‰

-----

DO NOT MESSAGE THEM SAYING:
โŒ Hi
โŒ Hi, I'm interested in the position, can we chat?
โŒ Hi, can you please refer me to the role?
โŒ Hi, can you tell me more about the role?

๐Ÿค” Their LinkedIn inbox is probably flooded with messages like that, so how can you stand out? do this:

โœ… Review the job posting they shared carefully
โœ… Think of your own experience and find 3 things that makes you a good candidate for the position (hint: look at the requirements of the job)
โœ… Send them this message:

โ€œHi [Name],

I saw your recent post about an opportunity for [role] at your company. My name is [your name] and I'm currently a [your current job] at [your current company].

I'm very interested in joining [their company] because [your reason to WHY you want to join their company. This shouldn't be more than 2 lines].

A bit about myself:

- [1st experience ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ (and I can't emphasize enough the word ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐) to the job posting they shared. No more than 3 lines]
- [2nd experience, similar format as above]
- [3rd experience, similar format as above]

I'd be happy to talk more about how I could help your team or answer any questions you may have. Please let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know about me or my work.

I can send my resume if you need it and be available for a call at a day and time that works best for you.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you!โ€œ

Here are 5 Free courses I would take in 2023 related to technology and products ๐Ÿ‘‡

1๏ธโƒฃ Intro to Python Programming - As a PM it's highly unlikely that you'll code (even as a TPM). However, the more you know about technology, the easier it'll be to understand and work with your Eng teams. I found that Python is an 'easier' language to learn, and can also be a good segway into Machine Learning if you are interested. https://lnkd.in/gCzbNEXy

2๏ธโƒฃ Product Design (by Google) - every PM needs to learn how Products are created through ideation, and validation, as well as how to identify metrics to determine the success. This course offers a good introduction to Google design sprints: https://lnkd.in/g3PQxNyw

3๏ธโƒฃ Agile Development - While not the top skill to know, having an idea of how Agile works is important for developing products and this course has everything you need to learn about it for free: https://lnkd.in/gV-6EbE

4๏ธโƒฃ SQL for Data Analysis - No list of free courses is complete without some data analysis/extraction course. This will teach you the basics of SQL and how to extract data - your day-to-day as a PM:https://lnkd.in/gDs4eKZc

5๏ธโƒฃ Data Storytelling - Knowing how to extract data is important. Knowing what to do with the data is, probably, more important in PM. This course gives a good introduction to how to tell stories with it and also talks about the ethics of reporting data: https://lnkd.in/gQnkujpc
