We’ve recently received some bittersweet news at Walmart. Ben-Saba Hasan, our Chief Diversity Officer the past seven years and a driving force behind our Culture, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion efforts, has shared his plans to retire at the end of July.
If you know Ben, you know just how much we’ll miss him. Throughout his time at Walmart, Ben has been a staunch and passionate advocate for our associates as well as a steady, hopeful voice across our company and in the communities we serve. He has supported our people as we’ve navigated some truly difficult moments together — whether it was the shocking murder of George Floyd more than two years ago or tragedies in El Paso, Buffalo and Uvalde.
Ben’s mission has been ensuring the voices of our associates are heard, valued and appreciated no matter their gender, race, identity, beliefs or background. His tireless leadership has been invaluable to our company, and to me personally, as we’ve sharpened our focus on building a Walmart for everyone. With Ben at the helm of our CDE&I organization, we’ve taken so many important steps in our ongoing journey and it is so rewarding to know the efforts are being recognized — like being included on DiversityInc’s Top 50 for the past three years and earning high scores on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
Ben, while we’re so happy for you, we’ll miss your determination, candor and care for every associate. We’ll also miss your ability to bring a smile to the faces of so many! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your service at Walmart and know the impact of your work will be felt across our company for years to come. #diversity #inclusion
