Although the economic environment remains challenging and demand from our key customer industries continues to be weak, our outlook for 2023 remains unchanged: We have forecasted an EBIT before special items of between €4.0 billion and €4.4 billion.
Taking a closer look at the figures for Q3 2023, we can see that we have our costs under control, and that we have a solid cash flow. @BASF continues to have a high equity ratio and a strong balance sheet.
In this context, we remain fully committed to driving our growth projects and advancing our transformation to #NetZero2050. By doing so, we are strategically positioning ourselves for the future.

To protect the climate, many of us adapt the way we travel, heat our homes, or eat. But it starts with the small things. Did you ever think about the carbon footprint of your toothpaste? We at BASF did. We calculated the product carbon footprints for our portfolio of 45,000 sales products. One of them is menthol. It gives toothpastes their fresh taste. To come up with the carbon footprint of a toothpaste, the same thorough calculation has to be done for all ingredients.
Our team developed a robust methodology with a detailed set of rules and a powerful calculation software to make this happen. To ensure that we do not compare apples and oranges we strive for a shared methodology which ensures a level playing field. Software companies are licensing our application, enabling other companies to determine product carbon footprints at scale.
This is just one example for how to tackle climate change with a new approach and in cooperation with others. We'll need a whole range of innovative approaches and solutions that can scale impact to make a fossil-free future a reality quickly. The World Economic Forum #DavosAgenda collected further examples from Jim Fitterling, Melanie Maas Gesteranus, Richard Lacaille and Christoph Schweizer.
