Our Product team is a perfect representation of this.

Our Product Managers (PMs) ship features to over 500 million learners, run thousand of experiments a year, are always 👏🏼 on 👏🏼 top 👏🏼 of 👏🏼 it, AND they are practically stand-up comedians.

The closest thing we have to a tech bro at Duolingo is the guy in the video… 🫣

When we ask Duos (our employees) to describe our people, we often hear: kind, quirky, nerdy, thoughtful, and mission-driven.

And a few months ago, our CEO, Luis von Ahn, shared that he was inspired by a Duolingo Product Manager (PM). Luis had asked the PM, “What do you think gets you promoted at Duolingo?”

The answer was: “It’s when you act in the best interest of the company rather than in your own best interest.”

We tend to attract people who have an aversion to: 
- Making decisions solely for self-gain
- Focusing more on impressing people than doing impressive work
- Prioritizing financial gain at the cost of negatively impacting the world

We look for people who intrinsically want to do what’s right for others. Without that, we can’t do what’s right for our learners and our mission.
