My starting #salary was RM2,458.

Well, not too bad lah, kan?

If we don't look at the hours, that is.

People were in disbelief when they knew about my salary then. Partly, they didn't expect a doctor's pay to be at that level. If we counted the hours, we're at the bottom tier.

Worse, we had to be in government service for at least four (4) years. There wasn't much movement in the pay scale.

As a result, I ended up chasing after better pay. The day I completed my service, I joined private practice. There was a jump in salary, and I was happy.

However, the syokness didn't last long. I had to sell medications or order unnecessary tests to meet sales targets. It went against my pillars and principles. So, I quit immediately as soon as the contract ended.

I joined the government again but in Singapore this time. Better salary, a better quality of life too. I reached satisfaction for a period until I realised I was trading a lot of my time for money.

I went home, back to KL and restarted. It was a financial burden, from a big salary to a smaller one. My wife stopped working to care for the kids too. Yet, I remain contented today as I got the balanced life I wanted.

Your money or your #life?

I opted for life with no regrets so far.
