👇🏻 It’s funny how your life can be turned upside down in a matter of days.
😔 5 weeks ago I got diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
🤯 Like WTF.
❔No one in my family has had breast cancer.
⁉️I never imagined my life having cancer in it.
😳But it does. And not in a small way.
This week I started my treatment:
-24 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by
- 1 mastectomy, followed by
- 3 weeks (I hope?!) of Radiotherapy
And then …
- 3 weekly infusions of immunotherapy for 6 more months. This will take treatment to around 14 months in total.
I have no idea what this means for my work or income over the next 8 months.
I have to hold my nerve and wait and see.
I’m hoping to be able to do some coaching hours and some podcast episodes. But I’m taking time to see how I feel.
But the most important message to get out is:
👩⚕️Check your breasts (men can get it too you know)
🔎 Don’t ignore anything.
➡️A very long time ago I was told I had lumpy breasts like 50% of all women (fibrocystic breasts), so I didn’t worry about the lumpy bits I felt, they’d always been there.
However, they had changed, and I hadn’t noticed because I had this idea in my head that mine were just lumpy-ish.
Doh.
It happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness month #breastcancerawarenessmonth .
Do your checking.
Here’s a photo of me wearing a freezing cold cap which is supposed to protect your hair from chemo. My 12 year old daughter is really upset I might lose it so I’m doing this for her. Personally the idea of a full blow dry wig is appealing given what I look like naturally first thing in the morning. 🤪
And to scare you into doing a breast check, here’s a photo of my chemo going in to my arm this week.
Stay safe
