I was unmoved.
He kept going about the lifestyle that person is going to enjoy. The stuff that guy will be able to buy and so on.
I listened patiently for 30 minutes and once he finished, I asked, “Is he happy? Can we talk about the thorns he sleeps with?“
Then, he told that person hasn't managed to sleep well. Works until morning everyday. Functions with 3 hours of sleep.
I said okay if he is enjoying that lifestyle, that's alright.
It has nothing to do with what I am doing at 29.
Did he lose close members at young age? No, I did
Did he refuse an onsite opportunity to pursue writing? No, I did
Did he go through a painful career transition? No, I did
The guy worked hard, tasted success, and it's a great feeling.
But someone's achievements can't degrade my struggles.
Life isn't a template. I am living my life, he is living his
