I gotta say something about this…

My previous company that laid me off last year also laid off 2000 others today. They did this by sending 2000 emails and cutting their access off immediately. Oh, and some people were sent FedEx shipping labels before they received the email. W T F.

I don’t care if you’re laying off 2 people or 2000, you give a person the respect they deserve and have some sort of live conversation. No closure. No empathy. No care to be had.

If you’re not ashamed of yourselves, you should be. I’m embarrassed for you. People are not a ledger entry. You have saved yourself money now-that’s neat. What’s the return you will receive on this divestment of people, other than saving money? Your customers will no longer have the efficient service they should be receiving. You have burned bridges with 2K+ people who have thoughts and opinions on how they just got fired-they WILL share this with others.

Layoffs suck and it’s always happening in business-that’s the reality, BUT maybe think next time about how you do it. Think about the person who may be the sole provider in the home. Think about the person who gave you 20+ years of their life to work at YOUR company. Think about the person who feels like their dignity has just been stripped from such a callous action.

I’m sure y’all who made the decisions on who goes will enjoy your 4th of July weekend, but maybe think about the 2000 people whose lives have just been dramatically changed and all the emotions they’re experiencing right now. Hope that makes your hot dog taste better.

Do better! Treat people like people. Have the balls to give these folks some respect.

Show how your purpose is people.
