🎈 Happy 3rd birthday to The Curious Route!
I've been reflecting lately on the last couple of years and I noticed something that immediately seemed obvious and I wondered how I didn't spot it sooner: I was a walking contradiction.
I often tell my clients "do less, and do it better". Do less busywork and focus more on high-impact, high-quality, important work.
But for some reason it took me 3 years to realise I wasn't taking my own advice.
I've been a bit scattergunned in my business, doing different bits and pieces here and there and being inadvertently pulled in several different directions. And it's been valuable, actually, to help me realise what I'm really good at, what work I do that impacts people the most and also what work I enjoy.
It took me 3 years but I now have a focus for my business at last!
1️⃣ The Curious Tribe
This community is truly the love of my professional life. When I first opened the doors in 2023, we had 11 members from 3 countries. Today we have 88 members from 16 countries, a Net Promoter Score of +81 and an exclusive annual in-person event. It's the supportive community I wish I'd had back when I was working in-house and it gives me such joy to help internal comms professionals directly in a community environment. Members are growing their skills, their confidence and even getting promotions and raises. It's quite incredible.
2️⃣ Comms education & training
For the last 3 years, I've been doing lots of training, workshops and courses for comms professionals. I enjoy this teaching so much that I realised I should be doing more of this, again with more focus and more depth. Later this year I'll be launching my own cohort course to share everything I know about being a successful, strategic internal communicator including how to build a comms strategy, how to measure your results and how to stay strategic when everything is on fire. And of course I will continue to run bespoke training workshops for in-house teams.
That's my business model now. Community and education. I'm finally taking my own advice to do less and do it better.
