I wish there was a platform, page or publication that celebrated normal people doing genuinely impressive things.

I’m getting a bit bored of everyone tossing off swathes of tech companies that never actually achieve anything other than raising (and burning) money and making their founders rich.

Every time I scroll on here it’s filled with the same old stories:

ā€œCongratulations to Ballbag.io for securing another Ā£75million that they’ll use to hire 300 people and then fire them via Zoom when they realise they don’t have a product market fit in 2 years time.ā€

Groundbreaking.

Why aren’t we congratulating Dave who left a soulless corporate job and made a profit in his first year as a graphic designer?

Why not shout out Jenny who just hired her first employee in her legal practice?

What about Anthony who’s been making ends meet for 6 months after being made redundant and has finally landed his dream job?

So many of us (me included) gloss over our own massive achievements because we’re focused on the 1% and not the 99%.

Let’s start celebrating the normal people taking massive risks with their own money and improving their lives, yeah?

If you see someone who’s done something cool on here, however small it may seem, don’t just scroll past it.

Tell them.

6 autistic things I’ve always done that I didn’t know were autistic:

1. Doing a practice run of every journey and conversation in my head first.

2. Forgetting someone’s name instantly and calling them ā€œmateā€ for the next 20 years.

3. Trying to time trains/taxis/arriving at meetings perfectly to minimise time spent doing nothing, and getting irrationally annoyed when it doesn’t run like clockwork.

4. Lining up my keys, phone and wallet in the order I pick them up in the morning.

5. Getting an uncontrollable urge to burst out laughing at inappropriate moments like a minutes silence, a funeral, or when someone goes arse over tit in front of me.

6. Processing and completing 17 other tasks in my head when someone is telling me something important.

I always just thought I was a bit of a bell end, and I probably am, but it’s all starting to make a lot more sense now.
