Earlier on this year I was selected as part of the YouTube Black Creator Class of 2022. As part of the #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund, selected creators receive seed funding, a dedicated YT partner manager, bespoke workshops and more.

This comes after 2 years of posting consistently to my YouTube channel about topics I am passionate about. Consequently, my most frequently asked question is how I manage my side hustles/ extra-curricular activities around my job. Here are my top tips:

- Don’t do anything that will conflict with your work. Speak to HR and Compliance and get clear on what it is you can and can’t do.

-Stop feeling guilty. You’re not a bad or unfocused employee because you have passions you want to pursue outside of work. In my opinion people who do this seem a lot happier.

-Understand your working hour strengths. The ‘9-5’ structure is designed to consume all your high energy hours and leave you with the low energy hours. However, if you are a morning person for example, why not wake up a little earlier to get some of your best hours back?

-Hiring! There’s nothing better than having a good team to support you. My team consists of an editor, freelance graphic designer, mentee/intern and business partners. It massively lifts the burden.

These are a few of my tips, if you have passions outside of work I’m curious to know how you are managing them?
