I left the UK. I've spoken to many others who've also left.
Here are our reasons:
- Taxes are secretly the highest since WWII!
- Corporation tax jumped from 19% to 25%!
- Inflation is squeezing incomes without tax relief.
- NHS and public services are in decline ๐
- Roads are in bad condition filled with potholes.
- Trains are unreliable and overpriced.
- Inflation up 30% in five years!
- Energy bills and living costs keep rising.
- Insurance has gone up like crazy.
- Crime rates are rising, and itโs ignored by police.
- People want safer places with stronger community ties.
- Racism and xenophobia is increasing (riots!)
- 7,000 people a month move to Dubai!
- Others head to Portugal, Malaysia, Singapore.
- Digital nomad visas in Thailand, Bali.
- The UK grind is pushing people to seek balance.
- Work culture is overshadowing family life.
- Hardly any social life as everyone is exhausted.
- Cost of childcare is too high.
- Anti-family agendas are rife.
- People are having fewer kids.
- Politicians were handing out contracts to their friends.
- Companies exploited and made record profits.
- Quality of life has suffered massively since then.
- Instead of using the tax money to improve services...
- Massive funds go into the military-industrial complex.
- Media spin to support 'ally' flouting international law.

- I love the UKโitโs where I lived my whole life.
- Might return someday. I enjoy visiting in the summer.
- As the world changes, so do our choices.
- For now, Iโm living and planning to stay in Iraq.
- For the very adventurous, places like Iraq offer something new.
If youโre considering a change or just curious about life outside the UK, there are many options.
(I actually initially came to Iraq as my mum moved here, and I wanted to be closer to her.)
Thereโs a growing community of like-minded people who have already made the move, even here to Iraq!
Weโre all here to help each other navigate this new chapter.
