The best candidates I've ever interviewed did the following:

1) They talked about their experience in a coherent, easy-to-follow way

2) They asked questions at the end that related to the conversation we just had (i.e. they listened)

3) They mentioned the values of the company, the games Activision makes, and something about the company that's been in the news recently

4)They asked me about me (we all have a bit of ego, it’s okay)

5) They picked out key points from the job description and told me about their experience with said points

6) They showed me their dog*

7) They were polite - i.e. they said please and thank you

8)They found a great balance between confidence and humility - they knew what they could bring to the role and the company, yet they also embodied a growth mindset

9) They weren’t afraid to hold firm on their salary expectations - or, if they did feel afraid, they didn’t give in to that fear

10) Ended their interview with the question, “Is there anything about my skills or experience that you’d like me to clarify for you?”

If you do these things, I can almost guarantee you'll at least get through that initial recruiter screening.

Recruiters, hiring mangers, interviewers - what would you add?

If you absolutely insist on job hopping, remember this:

Yes, you’ll make more money and have a better quality of life, but the company has to replace you and that costs them money.

It’s very difficult for a company to maximise shareholder value when you cost them money, so please bear that in mind when weighing up the pros and cons of leaving for a much, much higher monthly salary that would allow you to live far more comfortably than you do now.

I mean, a lot of these companies make only hundreds of millions a year in profit. If you leave and they have to spend money replacing you, it's possible that their CEOs might make a mere 199 times the average employee, rather than the 200 they've grown accustomed to and deserve.

So, just... try to be a bit more considerate, yeah?
