Shocking news today of Jacinda Ardern's resignation. “I’m leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility. The responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead and also when you are not. I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It’s that simple,” she said.

Stepping away from power to do what she feels is the right thing for her country is aligned with the values that she has demonstrated in her time in office, and a powerful leadership example for us all in selfless service.

“I hope I leave New Zealanders with a belief that you can be kind, but strong, empathetic but decisive, optimistic but focused. And that you can be your own kind of leader – one who knows when it’s time to go,” Ardern said today.

Perhaps her greatest leadership legacy? When reporters asked how she’d like her leadership to be remembered, she said “as someone who always tried to be kind.”

We hope she has time coming up to restore and fill her tank. And we will watch along with the world for what comes next. I am sure it will be nothing short of inspirational.
