Summer breaks have the potential to transform you.
I spent mine playing games all day until my eyes turned red and now I regret it.
I don't want the same to happen to you.
If you are a Software Engineering student, here are the best ways to make use of your breaks:
1. Internships: If you already have an internship, give your best and try to secure a PPO. If you don't have an internship, try hunting for them at very small startups. They usually open intern positions during this time.
2. Networking: In a few months, a lot of internship / full-time positions will be available. Make a list of your target companies and network with folks already working there. It'll be easier to get a referral when needed and they can also guide you throughout the process. Someone reached out to me 6 months before an internship opening and when the opening came, i referred them right away. So, this definitely works.
3. Leetcode : I don't need to say much here. Almost all companies have atleast a few rounds of DSA. Grind Leetcode and the time spent here will be worth it.
4. Projects: You'll need at least 2 good projects in your resume. Review your projects and see if they can be improved. Or better yet, try to make new projects collaborating with other engineers as they'll be free too during their breaks.
5. CS fundamentals: Review core subjects like Operating System, Databases, Computer Networks and others as they'll also be a part of the interviews.
6. Short vacation: Take short vacation. Everyone thinks they don't need a vacation and only after you take it, you realize that you needed it badly.
