I had a similar experience. In my senior year of high school, I cold-emailed Washington Ceasefire, Washington State’s oldest gun violence non-profit saying I wanted to help.
I was bold, concise, and considerate. And they took notice. Within three months, I became a board member and was meeting with the Seattle mayor and Washington State Attorney General to discuss gun violence, something I never thought I was qualified to do.
I’m not saying to email CEOs asking for a job. But don’t just send cold applications down the rabbit hole either.
Think and do outside the box.
Often the audacity and creativeness of these actions are enough to get someone's attention.
