With the model change, Porsche is defining the variants of the 911 GT3 even more clearly. For the first time, the popular Touring package will be available right from market launch. The Touring Package designation goes back to an equipment variant of the 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7 and has been part of the GT3 programme since 2017. It’s even more distinctive in the new 911 GT3, as reflected in the 911 GT3 touring logo on the rear lid grille.

As with all Porsche models, the precise configuration and tuning of all the components is a principal focus, and the tyres – the only point of contact with the road – are crucial to this. That is why, for decades, Porsche has been working with selected partners to develop tyres that are precisely tailored to Porsche vehicles and their respective intended use.

Together with Michelin, Porsche is now presenting a road-legal track tyre for the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS that has been specially developed for circuit use in wet conditions: the MICHELIN Pilot Sport S 5 N0.

“We are responding to demand from our particularly performance-focused customers that have expressed a desire to spend more time on track during spring and autumn,” says Andreas Preuninger, Director GT Vehicles at Porsche. “The new tyres significantly increase the annual usage period of the GT3 RS.”

Although Camp 911 Namibia is a typical #Porsche Travel Experience, it will be unlike anything that has ever been seen before in this segment. Most other trips in Namibia use comfortable SUVs — like with the Porsche Travel Experience Namibia. Here, guests will be traveling with Cayenne models, digging through the red dunes of Sossusvlei. Or even taking a private plane for the long journey to the Caprivi region in the far northeast of the country and to the world-famous Victoria Falls in the four-border region of Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

At Camp 911 Namibia, the first Porsche Travel Experience with the 911 Dakar, the focus will be on driving — a large part of the route will be on gravel roads and loose terrain.

Inside of the Sonderwunsch 911 Dakar, which was commissioned by an Italian collector of sports cars, yellow appears against the contrasting black, such as in the stitching and trim strips on the dashboard, centre console, and door panels.

The ‘911 Dakar’ lettering is also embroidered in Speedyellow thread on the headrests of the Sports Seats Plus, and the gear selector of the eight-speed PDK is enhanced with a Speedyellow leather insert. When the doors are opened, LED projectors cast the Sonderwunsch logo onto the ground. The extensive customisation ensured that this 911 Dakar of type 992 was refined right up to the end in the Sonderwunsch manufactory.

Few sportscars are as iconic as the 911. But the history of Porsche is full of many more examples deserving of your attention, of course.

From its unusual history to its intriguing design and enduring legacy, the charming Porsche 914 is certainly one to have a closer look at.

“It’s not exactly a Porsche, not exactly a VW,” says Tom Steffora, proud owner of a Porsche 914. “But for me it turned out to be one of the most interesting things either company ever made. That’s what makes it so unique. The Porsche 914 doesn’t fit neatly into any box, and I love that. There’s a mystique to it that you don’t get with many production cars.”

Where dreams become reality

In the Sonderwunsch programme, #Porsche refines and restores unique sports cars with a combination of skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail. The sports car manufacturer thus reinterprets its legendary Sonderwunsch programme from the late 1970s to enable individualised, one-off cars – co-created by the customer and professionally produced by Porsche.

The range of services encompasses individual customer colour and material requests directly in production, as well as subsequent modification after the car is delivered to the customer. Practically everything is possible, from new colours and equipment for existing cars to the creation of individual one-off cars at the customer’s request.

Realistic measurements at 300 km/h ... possible with our aeroacoustic wind tunnel at the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach.

This is where the aerodynamics of our sports cars are tested down to the smallest detail. The goals: energy-efficient aerodynamics, maximum driving safety and even more comfort.

With a cross-section of 22 m² and a test section length of 13.5 metres, it offers all the possibilities to simulate road conditions that are as realistic as possible. The vehicles are placed on a moving belt system with which it is possible to simulate the aerodynamic airflow at different driving speeds. The 9300 hp electric motor generates airspeeds of up to 300 km/h, allowing engineers to fully analyze and improve aerodynamic properties.

Other aspects such as driving stability, directional stability and sensitivity to crosswinds are also examined here. Every little detail counts to make the driving experience as ideal as possible. This also includes aeroacoustics.

For this purpose, a measuring array with around 600 microphones is mounted next to and above the vehicle, creating a kind of acoustic photo that can be used to precisely locate the source of disturbing wind noise.

Recently, we presented our Formula E car for the next two seasons: the new Porsche 99X Electric. The GEN3 Evo features all-round improved Porsche in-house developments.

Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport, says: “We build future sports cars, so we also want our appearance to be progressive. The young and innovative Formula E is an excellent platform for promoting our electric production sports cars. The preparation for the season thus far fills me with confidence that not only do we look good, but we can also build on the successes of last season. The bar has been set high: With Pascal as the World Champion, we are at the pinnacle of Porsche’s formula racing history to date.”

The road-legal Porsche 911 GT3 RS provides a real motorsport feeling - not least because of the steering wheel. This offers the driver individual customization options.

The operating logic of the new GT3 RS steering wheel is unique in a production vehicle and is derived directly from motorsport. With the help of four mode switches and a DRS button, the driver can individually adapt the vehicle set-up to the track conditions and personal driving style. All it takes is the push of a button.

Get to know all the highlights and functions of the GT3 RS steering wheel in the video.
