We must be careful to avoid simply looking at a response and instead consider the circumstances and situation in their entirety.

In my experience and opinion, this screams an employer who’s made poor hiring and firing decisions and asking others to kick-in to put a band-aid on a larger problem.

In my 30+ years of experience, it depends on the situation. There are employers that overlook the “workers” and reward the wrong people. Only to turn around and ask the workers to carry the water of poor decision making.

This screams something a boss would say to someone that has gotten sick and tired of being taken for granted.

Granted, this isn’t an across the board thing, but I’ve seen it so many times that it’s more than not the case. Most people don’t start there. They find themselves there after things that weren’t on the job description and things they don’t get compensated for repeatedly take place.

Other times, they brought in someone unsuitable who proved valuable only on paper.

Love the sentiment of a team is only as strong as its weakest link, but we probably shouldn’t simply put that off on the worker and should ask how that situation came to be.
