Is concrete as environmentally unfriendly as they say?
If you look at CO2e/kg it looks pretty good until you consider:
- Concrete is over 5.5 times heavier than wood.
- Reinforced concrete also contains large amounts of steel
- Wood has significant bio-sequestering properties
- Steel is highly recyclable
Materials are complex, remember to look at the bigger picture.
