I've said it a million times and I'll say it again - women get better with age.
Why? Because we become less interested in pleasing others and we feel more free to be who we really are.
People say women after 40 go crazy, but I believe that's just another way of shutting women up.
I also think we've always been “crazy ''. We just hide when we're young. And by crazy I mean – brilliant, ambitious, loud, powerful, bold... all the qualities we don't get praised for when we were little girls.
With age comes confidence and some people find that scary.
So they call us 'crazy', 'bitch', 'c*nt' but there is something very liberating about ageing - for me my 40s have truly been the 'fuck it' decade.
I really don't care what people think of me anymore, all I want is to live my life the way I see fit, be happy, enjoy, help others, and do whatever I want (without hurting anyone obviously).
It's taken a lot of time to get here, years of self doubt, of comparing myself to others, of not wanting to rock the boat, be too loud, be my true self in case I didn't fit in or god forbid I stood out.
But when I look back at my younger self, so eager to be accepted, eager to please and play the good girl role I was assigned by society, I must agree with the incredible Helen Mirren that what I should have been doing is telling more people to f*ck off.
Don't worry though - I'm making up for it now 😜
