I got laid off.


Twice.

Once after the 2008 crash.
Again in 2010.

I took the hint.
Corporate wasn’t for me.

So I stopped playing the game.
No title. No salary.
Just 18-hour days trying to build something.
Anything.

Three years.
No income.
No applause.
Just rejection, anxiety, and people laughing behind my back.

Eventually, I packed my life into a bag.
Left with $150 and a one-way ticket to Zurich.
I was done.

My good friend Alessandro let me stay.
Also makes the best pizzas I’ve had,
which definitely helped!

Didn’t ask for a penny.
He even helped me apply to a few jobs.
His kindness changed everything.

Two weeks later, I had two job offers.
I declined both.
Because deep down, I still believed in my idea.

December 2013, I made $80,000 in one month.
The thing I’d been chasing finally worked.
And it kept growing—for 10 years.

The success was real. So was the cost.
(But that’s a story for another time.)

If you’ve just been laid off, read this twice:

You are not done.
You are not broken.
You’re just in the middle of your story.

Keep going.

A client shouted at me.

It was my first job,
and I had made a small mistake.

I was young.
I took responsibility.
Fixed the issue.
I went back and apologized.

I thought it was over.
But the client filed a complaint.

My boss called me in.
Asked for every detail.
I thought I was getting fired.

I wasn’t.

He listened carefully.
Then he “fired“ the client.

That client, I later found out,
was worth $84,000 a year.

Afterward, my boss told me,
“We’re not just about money.
No one disrespects my team.”

That moment stayed with me.
Real leaders don’t just protect the business.
They protect their people.

I still respect him to this day.

I thought I had it all figured out.

The team.
The revenue.
The media empire.

Then in 2022...
something shifted.

I didn’t enjoy it anymore.
The pressure.
The pace.
The 50+ person team.

It wasn’t freedom.
It was burnout in disguise.

The business still looked successful,
but I didn’t feel like a success.

So I walked away.
Sold it off.
No drama. Just a clean break.

Two years earlier, something new had already started:
CEOs were reaching out.
Asking how I was growing so fast on LinkedIn.

So I listened.
Built around what they needed.
Delivered what worked.

Tiny team.
More focus.
More space to create.
Fewer people to manage.

Now?
More time to travel.
I sleep without an alarm.
Still work from anywhere,
but with much less stress.

Zero burnout.

Funny thing?
This version feels more me.
More aligned.
More powerful.
