Donāt be a prick. Be nice.
We recently had a senior candidate go through 4x rounds of interviews, to then have a final meeting request with the CEO at the clients office.
An informal catch up over a coffee.
What could go wrong?
After all, the offer was in principle made - and accepted. Sure, nothing in writing yet, but unless the candidate kicked the CEO in the shins, itās was pretty much a shoe in.
The candidate turned up and was dismissive and rude to the receptionist. They acted like the job was already theirs and they showed little to no respect for her and her position within the company.
After the meeting with the CEO (which went brilliantly) the candidate called to say that he ānailed itā.
He didnāt.
The receptionist told the CEO how the candidate acted and needless to say any formal offer was off the table.
Respect for anyone, not least your work colleagues, in any capacity, is the minimum that you should have when you turn up to work.
Donāt be a prick. Be nice.
