Hiring a Marketing Manager?

Read this as many times as you need to...

A Marketing Manager is not a PPC Manager

A Marketing Manager is not an SEO Manager

A Marketing Manager is not a Head of Marketing

A Marketing Manager is not a Copywriter

A Marketing Manager is not an eCommerce Manager

A Marketing Manager is not a PR Manager

A Marketing Manager is not a Graphic Designer

A Marketing Manager is not a GTM Specialist

A Marketing Manager is not an Email Marketing Manager

A Marketing Manager is not an Events Manager

A Marketing Manager is not a Marketing Director

A Marketing Manager is not an Internal Comms Manager

A Marketing Manager is not a Social Media Manager

Yes, they're all areas that a Marketing Manager might have touched at some point in their career, but each one is a role within itself.

Is it possible for a Marketing Manager to own a few of these areas and perform well?

Absolutely.

Should a Marketing Manager be expected to cover all of these areas on their own, and more, in a normal working week?

Absolutely NOT!

If you're hiring, please take a moment to think how heartbreaking it can be, to be on the other end and receive radio silence.

I've realised over the last few weeks just how soul-destroying it can be for some people who are without a job, needing work.

I've had people who're really talented, who have been looking for work for months. Some up to a year.

Do you know what they find most upsetting?

Surprisingly, it's not the actual 'not having a job' bit.

It's what seems to be a never ending series of good applications, with cover letters, following the requested process, dropping the hiring manager a polite note etc, leaving them feeling positive and hopeful... and hearing nothing.

Not a bean.

Seeing well crafted LinkedIn messages have been read and ignored.

THIS is what really gets people down.

So with this post, I implore every single person hiring, whether you're in HR, Talent, a hiring manager or a CEO, to ensure your applicants are given the respect they truly deserve.

There is absolutely zero excuse.
