I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, one of the best pieces of feedback I've received in my career is:

ā€œAlex, you like to hold people accountable, but this isn’t a culture where people like to be held accountableā€

I quickly realized I could never measure my own effectiveness or anyone else’s, if I stayed there. Knowing what you don't want is just as important as knowing what you do. After that, I only worked at companies that understood how important accountability is.
