I was REJECTED for a promotion even though I earned it.

The person hired was a friend of the hiring manager.

I've received multiple 6-figure job offers because I was the most prepared for the job interview, not because I was the “smartest.“

Every job interview ends with a Q&A, but many people don't ask questions at the end of interviews.

Here are 7 questions I used to get hired at JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and Citi (to help you get more job offers):

1. Can I elaborate on anything else to ensure I’m your top choice?

This question allows you to seal the deal by addressing lingering questions and doubling down on your strengths.

Take this last chance to highlight the critical strengths they need that you offer over the other candidates.

The final impression most directly impacts hiring choices.

2. What doubts do you have about my qualifications?

This allows you to respond to any hesitations and remove roadblocks to a job offer.

This flips the script to have them present any doubts, allowing you to address their concerns.

Listen closely for hints about your experience or skills not matching their requirements.

Remind them of your past successes handling similar challenges.

3. Can you describe a typical day in this role?

This helps you understand the daily responsibilities and expectations.

Look for a clear and detailed description of the tasks and how they align with your skills and interests.

4. What skills and experiences do you hope the ideal candidate has that we haven’t discussed?

This prompts them to call out must-have skills, for which you can make the case that you still check the boxes.

It also may expose areas where you lack “must-have” skills, meaning you’re likely not getting an offer, no matter how strong your credentials are.

Another angle at surfacing their current challenges and top priorities where you can position yourself as qualified.

It also defines what success looks like.

The more their wins align with your capabilities and interests, the better the fit.

7. What must-have soft skills do you feel contribute to success?

Every workplace has personality and behavior clues that unlock culture fit and influence performance.

This exposes the key ingredients for those who thrive long-term and signals whether you fit.

Financial statements aren't hard to understand.

Let me explain them in under 3 minutes:

1. The balance sheet shows what a business owns and owes at any moment.

2. The income statement shows how profitable the company is over time.

3. The cash flow statement shows the actual cash going in and out of the business.

1. The Balance Sheet:

Answers the question, “What does the company have, and what does it owe?“

A balance sheet is a snapshot of a company's financial position at a specific point in time.

It shows:

• what a business owns (assets)
• what it owes (liabilities)
• what belongs to the owners (shareholder equity)

The key thing to know is that a balance sheet follows the simple formula:

Assets = Liabilities + Shareholder Equity

a. Assets = Liabilities + Shareholder Equity:

This makes sense when you think about it - a company has to finance or pay for its assets by taking on debt (liabilities) or getting investments from shareholders (equity).

Analyzing a balance sheet can show you:

• how much debt it has
• how financially stable a company is
• the company's ability to grow and take on more opportunities

2. Income Statements:

It answers the question, “How much money is the company making?“

While a balance sheet shows a company's financial position at a point in time, an income statement shows performance over a period of time.

It summarizes how much money a company brought in (revenue) and how much it spent (expenses) over time.

a. The key parts of an income statement are:

• Revenue - Money earned from sales of products and services

• Expenses - Operating costs like employee salaries, materials, advertising, etc.

• Profit/Loss - Revenue minus expenses gives you your final profit or loss

b. An income statement helps you understand how profitable a company's operations are.

• Are expenses under control? 
• Are sales growing or declining?

These questions can be answered by analyzing trends in the income statement over time.

3. Cash Flow Statements:

It answers the question, “How much money is the company generating, and how is it spending it?“

Cash flow statements show how cash enters and leaves a business through three main activities:

• Operating activities - Cash from day-to-day operations and expenses

• Investing activities - Cash used for investments and asset purchases

• Financing activities - Cash from loans, investors, stock issuances

a. While income statements show profitability, cash flow statements depict liquidity - a company's ability to generate cash and meet financial obligations.

Positive cash flow indicates financial health and flexibility to pursue new projects or investments.

10 productivity cheat codes everyone should know:

1. Pomodoro Technique:

The Pomodoro Technique involves working in focused 25-minute increments, followed by a 5-minute break.

After 4 cycles, take a longer break of 15-30 minutes.

This technique will help you stay focused and avoid burnout.

2. The “2-Minute Rule“:

If a task can be done in less than 2 minutes, do it immediately.

This helps eliminate small tasks that can quickly add up and overwhelm you.

3. The “5-Second Rule“:

When you feel the urge to procrastinate, count down from 5 and take immediate action.

Count backward 5-4-3-2-1

This helps to overcome the initial resistance to starting a task.

4. The “1-3-5 Rule“:

At the start of each day, identify 1 big thing to accomplish, 3 medium things, and 5 small tasks.

Knock out those priorities first.

5. The “80-20 Rule“:

Focus on the 20% of tasks that will produce 80% of the results.

This helps to prioritize tasks and avoid procrastination.

6. “Eat the Frog“:

Do your biggest, nastiest task first thing in the morning while your willpower is highest.

It's energizing to get the hard stuff out of the way early.

7. The “Not To-Do“ list:

Identify tasks or activities that are not essential or that can be delegated and stop doing them.

This helps to free up time and energy for more important tasks.

8. Break Tasks into Smaller Pieces:

One main reason we procrastinate is that a task seems too big and overwhelming.

To make it more manageable, try breaking it down into smaller, more doable parts.

For example, if you have a big project, break it down into steps like researching, outlining, writing, and editing.

You'll feel less overwhelmed and more motivated to get started.

10 powerful Excel shortcuts everyone should know!

Don't use Microsoft Excel again without memorizing these:

1) Autosize columns:

• Alt + H + O + I

Example: 
If you have multiple columns, and some of the columns contain text or numbers that are too wide to display in full, then use Alt + H + O + I to quickly adjust the width of the columns to display the full content of the cells.

2) Display Formulas in Cells:

• Ctrl + ~

Example: 
If you have a cell that contains a formula, you can use Ctrl + ~ to switch between the formula view and the value view of the cell. This allows you to see the underlying formula used to calculate the cell value.

3) Insert current date / Insert current time:

• Ctrl + ; (date)
• Ctrl + Shift + ; (time)

Example: 
When tracking the progress of a project, add the date each time a task is completed. Use Ctrl + ; to quickly insert the current date.

4) Freeze Panes- Rows & Columns:

• Alt + W + F + F

Example: 
If you have data with headers in the top row, and you want to keep the headers visible while scrolling, use Alt + W + F + F to freeze the top row, so the headers remain visible while scrolling through the data.

5) Repeat the Last Action:

• Ctrl + Y

Example: 
You have just applied a formatting style to a cell, use Ctrl + Y to quickly apply the same formatting to another cell.

Preparation.

I’ve gotten many 6-figure job offers from good preparation.

Prepare for these 10 questions to crush your next job interview:

1) What do you consider your greatest weakness?

• Highlight a past weakness and the steps you took to overcome it and demonstrate your growth.

• Start with “I'm not sure about my greatest weakness, but I can talk about a weakness in the past and how I overcame it.“

2) What sets you apart from other candidates?
 
• Use this question to highlight your top 5 strengths directly related to this role from the job description.

• Look to see which strengths they are looking for, and give examples of you possessing these traits in prior roles.

3) Tell me a time you couldn’t meet a goal/deadline & how you handled it

• Explain how you react to situations that don't go as planned.

• Explain a time when things didn't go as planned, how you fixed the situation, and lessons learned so it doesn't happen again.

4) Tell me a time when you made a mistake. How did you handle it?

• Illustrate how you overcome obstacles.

• Explain a time you made a mistake and highlight what you did to fix the situation and lessons you've learned so that the mistake doesn't happen again.

5) Why do you want to work for us/ this company?

• Research the company and use this as a chance to talk about everything you love about it.

• Mention why you like the position and why it's a great fit.

• Show excitement about the position and the company!

6) What is your greatest strength?

• Look at the job description and only talk about strengths directly related to the role you are interviewing for.

• Show why you are a great fit for this role and explain how you have the skills that this job demands.

7) Tell me about some of the most difficult problems you worked on and how you solved them

• Show how your problem-solving skills and your thought process.

• You want the interviewer to feel confident in your ability to solve problems and create solutions.

8) Describe a time when you successfully balanced several competing priorities

• Elaborate on your multitasking and organizational skills.

• Explain how you organize your work and schedule your time.

• Use this to show that you get things done!

9) Why do you want to leave your current position?

• Thank your current role for what you've learned, but explain why you're interested in this new role.

• Explain what you enjoy most about the company and the position you're interviewing for.

10) What have been your most significant accomplishments?

• Discuss problems that you've solved related to this role.

• Talk about your top achievements related to this role so the interviewer understands your value.
