Cheerful dog walker: "How's it going... that thing you do?"
Me: "Erm, what thing?"
Cheerful dog walker: "You know, agony uncle, ain't ya?"
Boom. That's what people in my village think I do apparently...
We proceeded to have a nice chat about that and the new things in their lives. Lovely.
Then I went home and coached the CEO of a charity, and VPs in two different pharma companies, without being an agony uncle 😅
Pausing between those calls with a coffee, I reflected that unless we have a super clear career label like dentist or plumber, everyone else hasn't got much of an idea about what we REALLY do.
Why am I sharing my village encounter with you?
To encourage you to worry less about what other people might think about your job and the image or perception you think that goes with it.
They're likely to have the wrong idea no matter what you say.
Do what fills you up, don't wait for 'one day'
I was born in 1973 and many of the people I help were born 5 years either side.
That means there's still 15-20 years for them to choose something that they give a crap about doing.
It is possible to check all the boxes of heart, head and wallet. I see it all the time, help people with that every day
I'm determined to help as many people as I can in making the most of the good years they have left, whatever they're dreaming of 💪
P. S. Say hi if you were also born in '73 👋
