Tag someone fearless in your life! And remember: Fearlessness is not the absence of fear. It's the mastery of fear. It's about getting up one more time than we fall down 💜 | Repost: betr, photo credit: madebymaeberry

Grateful to Taylor Swift for this message from last night’s iHeartRadio Music Awards.

As my mother used to tell me: “Failure is not the opposite of success, it's a stepping stone to success.”

Happy Birthday to the 44th President. This was taken during the '08 campaign before the office began graying his hair (the way his successor is graying everybody’s now!).

One of my favorite Microsteps for setting boundaries with work is declaring an end to the day, even if you haven’t completed your to-do list, but have taken care of the essential priorities. Love these additional tips for setting the boundaries you need to succeed without burning out. https://bit.ly/3LAEC0M

Another childlike skill we all need to hang on to — the ability to laugh at ourselves! 😆

I vote because I want the world to be a better place. Our world is facing multiple crises that affect all of our daily lives. The health of our communities, our country and our world depends on engaged citizens making sure our voices are heard. And that starts with voting.
A great commencement lesson from Roger Federer — one of the greatest tennis players ever — on the dangers of perfectionism. As he says, “Perfection is impossible... When you lose every second point on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot.“

One of my mother’s gifts was to be in a constant state of wonder at the world around her. Whether she was washing dishes or feeding seagulls at the beach or reprimanding overworking businessmen, she maintained her sense of wonder at life. And whenever I’d complain or was upset about something in my own life, my mother had the same advice: “Darling, just change the channel. You are in control of the clicker. Don’t replay the bad, scary movie.” #MothersDay

As a working mother, I think they take the baby out and put the guilt in. I haven’t met a guilt-free working mother! But as they say on airplanes: put your own oxygen mask on first! #selfcare #mothers #workingmothers

What a five-star review looks like for a sleep book. I wonder what she's dreaming about! 😎😎😎 (It seems this photo was taken pre-COVID, which explains no face mask. Although, maybe an eye mask would help with the bright train lights).

I still remember, when I was twelve years old, a very successful Greek businessman coming over to our home for dinner. He looked run-down and exhausted. But when we sat down to dinner, he told us how well things were going for him. He was thrilled about a contract he had just won to build a new museum. My mother was not impressed. “I don’t care how well your business is doing,“ she told him bluntly, “you’re not taking care of you. Your business might have a great bottom line, but you are your most important capital.“

So much of our lives are all about the next goal. We human beings are magnificent creatures, capable of amazing things, but it's so easy to let ourselves be reduced to our to-do lists. That’s why it’s useful to also celebrate our accomplishments by making a “done list!”

Couldn't agree more with what Constance Wu said on the Thrive Global podcast about how we talk to little girls: “When you meet a little girl today, don’t be like, ‘Oh, you’re so pretty.’ There are just so many other adjectives: talented, funny, caring, brave, smart, or inspiring. But if we pound into young girls’ heads from early on that the first compliment they’re going to get is, ‘Aren’t you a beautiful little girl,’ they inherently are going to think that that’s the first assessment and that’s where my value is.“

Valentine’s Day reflections. Life always makes more sense in retrospect. ❤️

Thinking of this quote from Anthony Bourdain on the second anniversary of his death: “Walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food. It's a plus for everybody.”
Inspiring interview of Michelle Obama by Gayle King this weekend at #EssenceFest about how women still struggle to prioritize our own health and well-being. Even as women take on more responsibility in the workplace, and men — at least some! — take on more responsibility at home, women are still the ones largely orchestrating everything that has to be done to manage the family and keep the household running. And this, of course, has consequences for women in the workplace and is contributing to the gender gap. http://bit.ly/2XzrvqS

It's a permission word.
A happy 60th birthday to our 44th President. We can all mark it this week, and reflect on where we are in the American journey, by watching HBO’s new documentary, “Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union.” As Barack Obama once said, “we are reminded that in the fleeting time we have on this Earth, what matters is not wealth, or status, or power, or fame — but rather, how well we have loved, and what small part we have played in making the lives of other people better.“

Great tips from people like Chelsea Handler and Neil deGrasse Tyson.
“Marriage challenges you to deal with sickness, tragedy, financial stresses, changes in faith or beliefs, job loss, weight gain, raising kids, losing parents and other family members, and you have to do it all while supporting and satisfying another emotional human being!”
“The funny thing is that I really should’ve resigned from that job years before I did. The #environment was #toxic, and while the work itself was interesting, it wasn’t what I wanted to do with my career.” How did you know it was time to leave your current role? #careers #newjob #quitting

“Love yourself as you are, not as you wish you’d be.“
Right now, we’re working more, but because we’re more stressed and distracted and less able to focus, we’re less productive. That’s the productivity paradox. That’s why spending time on #SelfCareSunday actually recharging and unplugging isn’t a distraction or a sign of weakness – but actually sets us up for a much more productive and creative week ahead than if we try to just constantly power through. 💜
