To me, culture is like gardening.
Â
A beautiful garden does not stay the same on its own. If you do not shape it, if you do not nourish or water it, it will stop flourishing. And whenever the weather, the seasons or even the climate is changing, the garden needs special care.
Â
The same is true for company culture. We at Deutsche Telekom have a good culture. We have strong values. Our people are proud to be T. They feel they belong. They are engaged.Â
But the world around us is changing. Stronger competition. Geopolitical uncertainty. A vibe shift in society.
That is why we decided to evolve our culture at Telekom. And we gave it a new name: T-Style.
Â
At todayâs Town Hall with Tim HĂśttges, I explained that gardening is never finished. And we are all gardeners.Â
Â
As Group, we are defining the frame. We have sharpened our Guiding principles and introduced our three cultural priorities: Performance, Uncorporate, Collaboration.
However, culture can't be prescribed top-down. As top leaders we can inspire, we have to set the right conditions, we must walk the talk.
But ultimately, culture is shaped by each and every colleague. By our individual decisions. By the way we work with one another. By the everyday actions we take.
That is why I shared a couple of examples at Telekom. Small, everyday examples that bring T-Style to life:
âĄď¸ Our strong values: More than 100 colleagues donated blood this week here in Bonn â organized by our trainees. A strong example of solidarity and responsibility for the greater good. This is T-Style!
âĄď¸ Collaboration: Our new intranet is being built by a team collaborating across many functions. And more than 10.000 colleagues have already voted for a name. This is what collaboration looks like in practice. Or if my colleagues Rodrigo Diehl and Dr. Ferri Abolhassan drop fire-up messages to me before and during the townhall. This is T-Style!
âĄď¸ The Uncorporate: In my own leadership team, we are testing a simple principle: No decision to make? No meeting. And more time for what really matters. This is T-Style!
âĄď¸ Performance: Whether it is frontline technicians striving for "excellent craftsmanship" for our customers, or colleagues like Ulrich Klenke going the extra mile to make a video truly excellent: this is ambition, devotion and performance in action. This is T-Style!
Â
And there were many more great examples today: colleagues and teams who presented projects that truly bring T-Style to life. These projects really deserve the T-Style stamp of excellence! Thank you for sharing your work and your energy.
Thomas Tschersich, Thomas Masicek, Oliver Schmitz, Marcus Mazur, Irena Jakoubkova, Joern Kellermann, Friederike Michaelis
Â
A big thank you as well to everyone who joined the Town Hall and to everyone who helped make it happen.Â
Michaela Schwinge, Ayse Semiz-Ewald
Â
Be leading. Be T-Style.
