Someone shared a post saying she was looking for a job. There were 0 likes and no comment. So I liked, commented and tagged a couple of recruiters. Last week she sent me a message:

“Brigette, thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my post. The views on my post went to 300,000. Recruiters contacted me. Someone even volunteered to review my resume for free. I now have 2 interviews and I did not have any for the last 3 months. I am so excited! I only wish there were more people like you.”

Job searching is emotionally draining. So whenever you see such posts, share or drop a like or comment. It only takes a few seconds but could be a lifechanger for someone.

You may not be able to get them a job, but someone who might be able to, may see it. This is what LinkedIn and true networking is about. Let's help each other out.

Making employees feel valued and APPRECIATED is the best thing you can do every day. In today's world where everything moves at 100 miles /hr in a company, it is easy to forget to stop and do this. Even the slowest employee will work to the best of their ability if they know their efforts are being appreciated. Appreciation coupled with incentive rewards is a great morale and productivity booster. Don't just tell me how much you appreciate me. Show me! Actions speak louder than words! Agree?

Searching for a JOB? I saw a post someone shared seeking employment. He had been recently laid off. There was 0 likes. So I liked and commented. This happened last week. Friday he emailed me to say how grateful he was for my support and he got and accepted an offer.

Many individuals here are searching for jobs and when no one likes or comments on their updates, it feels like added rejection. Job searching is emotionally draining and discouraging. And It takes guts to share, “I am out of work and need a job...”

So when you see such posts, share or drop a like or comment. Every little bit counts. It will boost their visibility and will give them encouragement to keep pressing on. You may not be able to get them a job but someone else who might be able to, may see it.

This is what LinkedIn and true networking is about. Let's help each other out.

BOSS: I didn't see you log on at 10:00am.
Employee: But we are working from home. I was on a break.
BOSS: That's not the stipulated break times.
Employee: But I am getting my work done.
BOSS: I just need to see you online and I need to know your movements.
Employee: Okay fine. I am starting and finishing on time. Nothing more.

Micromanagement is a complete waste of time! It sucks the life out of employees. If you hired someone for a job, then trust them to get it done!

I once interviewed this young lady highly recommended. She was so nervous, couldn't answer a question properly.

It was a panel interview. So I asked the other panelists to leave the room and me and the HR manager remained. She was able to do better with the remaining questions but overall didn't do well in the interview. But as the hiring manager, I couldn't get past my gut feeling she was the best candidate for the job. She had a good track record. I knew I needed to give her a chance and within 6 months, she exceeded all my expectations.

You just never know who it is behind the person shown in an interview. We shouldn't be too quick to cross someone off who didn't do well in the interview. The truth is interviews can be nerve-wracking. There is much more to a person that just passing / failing an interview. Acing an interview does not equate to success on the job.

Focus on the real person and what they can bring to the table. Agree?

A RECRUITER contacted me and said she has a great JOB for me. I told her I am not looking but I did recommend 2 people. There are so many individuals out there who are job searching,

1. Always refer others for opportunities. It only takes a few moments but to someone it could be a life changer.
2. You are building a relationship with a recruiter. You never know what tomorrow holds.
3. You help someone find a job and you help the recruiter get a good candidate.

It's sad that she had said few recommend others. Let's help each other out. Always pay it forward. Agree?

Good leaders empower. Bad ones micromanage. Micromanaging is the opposite of empowerment, and it creates toxic work environments. It chokes the growth of the employee and the organization and fosters mediocrity. When you empower employees, you promote vested interest in the company. A high level of trust between managers and employees defines the best workplaces. It's facilitating a healthy environment where employees can perform at their best. If you want performance at scale: Select the right people, provide them with the proper training, tools and support, and then give them room to get the job. Agree?

WRONG DECISION!
Many companies keep treating employees poorly because they think they will not leave. People just want to feel valued, appreciated and heard. Once employees decide they have had enough, they will leave in spite of the money or perks. Loyalty is a two-way street. Never push loyal employees to the point where they no longer care! Agree?

I allow my employees flexibility in lunch time, breaks, sick days, family leave, further education, etc.

I don't believe in micromanaging. Micromanagement is a complete waste of everybody’s time. It sucks the life out of employees, fosters anxiety and creates a high stress work environment. I train, coach and mentor but I don’t have the time to micromanage. It's counterproductive.

If you hired someone, it means you believe they are capable of doing the job. Then trust them to get the job done. You don’t need to be constantly monitoring their every movement.

Select the right people and give them room to get the job done.

I get so many messages from employees complaining about being treated poorly by their employers. It seems that many companies have lost touch with the fact that it is people who make a company successful. If you keep treating employees poorly you will never earn their loyalty. People might tolerate a boring job or long commute, but they are more prone to leave if they believe their work environment is toxic. It all comes down to how you treat people. Loyalty is a two-way street! Agree?

Great leaders build strong teams. They drive positive cultures and inspire people to see what's possible. Bad bosses on the other hand see best people as a threat to their position. They foster toxic work cultures driven by fear, negativity and distrust. When great leaders are at the helm, team spirit soars. They build people up versus tear them down. Agree?

An insecure boss who thinks they know it all is one of the most dangerous things you can ever encounter in your career. Leaders lacking in emotional intelligence often create toxic work environments. They are the top cause of unhappiness in the workplace. Great leaders build strong teams. They drive positive cultures and inspire people to be their best. They optimize the talent of others. It's about identifying and appreciating the differences each team member brings to the table. The synergy of all contributors leads to the best solution. Your success is a result of your team. Play to your team's strengths and everyone wins! Agree?

JOBSEEKERS, never let your needs cloud your judgement, in spite of how desperate you may think you are. There are alot of employment scams out there.
1. If there are red flags don't ignore them.
2. Never pay money to get a job.
3. If the interview is in a secluded location, take someone with you.
4. If an offer is too good to be true (paying exorbitant amounts) probably it is.

Not all open doors are meant for you to walk through.

There will always be opportunities. Know your worth and keep going. The right door will open for you.
It takes more than some catchy mission or vision statement to create a great culture. It starts with building TRUST. It's about creating a safe space for your employees. Managers, get to know your employees, meet them where they are and be flexible. It’s important to focus on relationship building. This is the essence of life and business - relationships. If you want great company culture, start with implementing kindness, empathy, respect, transparency, accountability, humility, authenticity and integrity in your core values. It starts at the top. I was in a 1-1 with an employee who asked if she can work from another country for 3 months.

I immediately approved it. She was shocked and asked, “Don’t you want to know the reason why?”

My reply was, “You are not required to share your personal details. Just let me know what you need from me to be successful in your role. And I will show up for you.

We are all adults. You choose how to get your work done. Come to the office fine. 9 to 5? Fine. Work from home. Fine. Leave early. Fine. Work from another country? Fine.

It's sad how we have infantilized the workplace so much, that employees feel the need to apologize for having personal lives.

Measure results not physical presence.
On LinkedIn, you should ONLY connect with individuals you know and trust. That’s in the user guidelines.

I couldn't subscribe to this. Would you attend a Global networking event with over 500M+ people and only talk to the few people you know?

The real value of LI may not come into full view until the unexpected happens to us. You should MAXIMIZE this business platform.

Build your network. Dig your well before you need the water.

Put yourself out there so other members can get to know you. Share helpful content. Comment on posts. Send/accept connection requests.

Networking is about starting a conversation. Connecting to ONLY people you know or have met before, is like remaining in your comfort zone.

If you plan on using #LinkedIn to grow your business, to promote yourself, or to get found for either job or business opportunities...

You can’t play it safe.

Always HIRE people smarter than you. Sadly some managers see best people as a threat to their own position. The job of a manager is to set people up to succeed. The fastest way to destroy a company is to stop listening and keep closing the door on employees who are trying to do the best for the company. Never push loyal employees to the point they no longer care! Agree?

Don't just QUIT your JOB the moment someone offers you a better salary. Research your new boss, the people and the culture. No amount of money can compensate for a toxic work culture. The truth is, the grass is not always greener on the other side. I learned this the hard way. If an organization has a high turnover rate, or there are always vacancies for the same position. Beware. One of the worst feelings is feeling unappreciated. At the end of the day, we are human, and we need validation through appreciation. Appreciation is one of life's greatest motivators. Research shows that acknowledgment activates dopamine in the brain, enhancing motivation, focus, and positivity.
Even the slowest employee will work to the best of their ability, if they know their efforts are being appreciated. Waiting too long to appreciate employees could result in those you lead feeling resentful. Not only do underappreciated employees cost more when they (inevitably) leave but they cost a lot more if they stay...faulty work, poor customer service, reduced productivity. Actions speak louder than words. Don't just tell employees you appreciate them. Show them! Agree?

It’s been just over a year since I left my job. Someone asked me to describe the jump from corporate world to entrepreneurship. I said It’s like leaving a pool to swim in the ocean. Even the best swimmers can drown. You are open to the elements, the water can be cold plus the undercurrents and then there are sharks.

If you are heading down that road. I would advise you to plan and prepare carefully. I didn’t just get up one day and take the plunge. I was doing my business part-time so I was already testing the waters. I also set aside emergency cash and took care of major debts.

Entrepreneurship is not a walk in the park and it’s not for the faint of heart. I have faced many ups and downs in my journey and at times the downs seem to be more than the ups which can be overwhelming. #Entrepreneurship is both challenging and rewarding. However, there is no greater feeling, getting up daily knowing you are investing in your dreams and then seeing the seeds of your labour bearing fruit. If you put in the work, the results will come. #Purpose #Passion #Persistence #BrigetteHyacinth
