The events in Ukraine the last week have been profoundly shocking to me and to everyone in this organization. The conflict and the human suffering this war is causing continues to be deeply tragic. In these difficult times, I have found hope in the ways our EYÂ family has come together to help those suffering.Â
Â
Earlier today, we announced the difficult decision that the EY Russia firm will leave the EY global network and restructure as an independent firm. We have over 4700 colleagues in Russia who have worked side by side with our global, Eastern European and Ukrainian colleagues, and we thank them for their contributions over the years.
Â
Our priority has always been, and continues to be, the safety of the 700 EY Ukraine people and actively supporting those impacted.
Â
To date, we have helped almost 100 colleagues and their families leave Ukraine and settle in other countries, with more on the way to borders. EY people are providing logistical and financial support, translation and transportation services, and medical care and lodging assistance. The EY communities receiving refugees are collecting supplies, providing immigration assistance and connecting children with local schools.
Â
I am so proud and inspired by the way the EY family has rallied to help colleagues and the wider refugee population. The worst of times brings out the best in EY people.
Â
Our thoughts remain with those in Ukraine and in the broader region, and with EY people who have family and loved ones in Ukraine. We #StandwithUkraine and the global community calling for peace.
