A candidate called me to withdraw his application because he had another offer. The mismatched timing of both processes meant he had to accept the bird in the hand. He apologised profusely, saying he felt he'd let me down.

While I appreciated the call, I let him know there was no need to feel guilty or apologise.

👀 We knew he was seeing other people
👀 He knew we were seeing other people
😉 At that point, our relationship status = it's complicated
👏🏻 No hard feelings, just genuine happiness to see him get a win as he'd been out of work for a while.

💡 Reminder to candidates 👉🏻 in an interview process where there is 𝘮𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 transparency & communication (as much as is possible & appropriate), you don't have to feel guilty about your career decisions.
