The means of controlling IoT devices, robots and drones are becoming increasingly simple and instinctive

- here are two methods for controlling drones during inspections

neither require advanced training to master controls or user interfaces, just an understanding of what the user is looking for

Where specialists need to get the right information from difficult to reach places, there is not always the time available to wait for a drone pilot or robotics operator to arrive, take instruction and then relay the information back.

More natural controls can allow the person who needs the information to be the person who retrieves it.

Jewellery is moving in entirely new directions thanks to the work of Augmented Reality artist and futurist Piper ZY

This award winning Chigago based artist has worked with record labels, tech giants and major brands to leverage the spectacular creative capabilities of new and emerging media like AR.

Augmented reality like this can exist entirely digitally, simply recognising hand, face or ear to add an AR layer like this.

Alternatively it can be trained to recognise a real world piece of jewellery, only activating when it sees that piece

In this way add another layer of visual interest or animated effects that might not be possible on the physical world alone.

Imagine your pendant seeming to project a hologram of a hovering humming-bird?

Or opening a locket to see a recorded video message of a loved one?

Or, as we can see here, creating beautiful, impossible mechanisms that draw the eye an create a whole new sense of wonder.

With AR glasses hitting the market in force, and some saying set to replace mobile phones as the ubiquitous device of choice, these layers will gain immense popularity.

(I'm actually an amateur jeweller in my spare time with a huge interest in clockwork mechanisms so, as you can imagine, this amazing example from Piper Z. Y is right up my street 😁 )
