Here is a vacation hack for the rest of 2024.

I recently read that Americans take the least paid time off (PTO) of any developed country in the world.

At Meta / Facebook, we got 21 PTO days, 11 public holidays and 2 extra ā€œchoice days.ā€œ

Despite all of this—most people forgot to use PTO, or just let it accrue.

We're now about halfway through 2024.

Don't let your PTO days go to waste.

Here's how to maximize your vacation/PTO days:

- July 1-3 & 5 [9 days off]
- Sept 3-6 [9 days off]
- Nov 12-15 [9 days off]
- Nov 25-27 & 29 [9 days off]
- December 23, 24 & 27, 30, 31 [12 days off]

Put in your PTO requests from now.

Your manager has enough time to approve them all!

I just spoke to a startup CEO who’s giving his entire company an 8.3% holiday bonus.

It will come as an extra month’s salary this year.

And the entire company has already received it.

I asked him why he decided to do that when most companies seem to be cutting back.

He said: ā€œbecause our people deserve it!ā€

Employees are the ones that helped companies navigate an incredibly choppy 2022.

Reward them—don’t punish them.

I bet most of them will still be around at the end of 2023.

One year ago today I was laid off from Meta.

I’d be lying if I said it was all rainbows and sunshine since then.

But this journey has taught me so much about patience, resilience, and believing in yourself.

Here are my top 3 lessons learned:

1ļøāƒ£ follow your passion

I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur.
Over the last year, I grew NeoPeople with my dad and started my own media company. And I’ve never been more professionally fulfilled.

2ļøāƒ£ community is so important

The week after I was laid off, I had offers to interview at Google, Deloitte and AMEX. This was because people knew my personal brand.

Then in 2023, I met a bunch of LinkedIn creators who forever changed my life. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them. Find your community—find your tribe!


3ļøāƒ£ you are far more than your job

For a long time I identified only as the ā€œFacebook guyā€ or the ā€œMeta guyā€ but I much prefer being just ā€œDom.ā€ We are all so much more than our jobs.

In the last 12 months I went from unemployment to doubling my yearly Meta salary.

The universe has a plan for all of us—and I know your time will come too šŸ™

Some are calling it a ā€œsummer breakā€œ for their employees.

While others just say it's a week to rest & recharge.

Let's be honest: not a whole lot of work gets done this week.

So I think a mid-year extended holiday is a fantastic idea.

Because all of us could use a break right now.
