"STOP capitalizing on Lonliness." New Yorkers have been vandalizing and peeling the ads of the company Friend down last year.

People still try to sell a subscription model as the cure for loneliness. It’s not. Technology should be a bridge to the real world, not a destination where we hide from it. "Chatbot escapism" is leading us toward a reality where people may actually need therapists for chatbot breakups.

But something is shifting. As Gary Marcus recently highlighted: the AI backlash is real. From the "QuitGPT" movement to protests against AI-powered schools, people are revolting against having "AI slop" shoved down their throats. Seeing these rejections of AI might seem extreme to some, but it actually gives me a sense of hope and pride.
