We cover and reflect on 14 case studies from mostly Germany, but also Austria, France and Egypt. Building on the work of Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL), we explore how the deep design of each business (e.g. ownership, governance model...) unlocks regenerative and distributive dynamics.
The 14 case studies are:
Commown – Cooperative in France enabling rental of fair, sustainable and modular electronics
FoodHub München – Offers fair, fresh, regional and predominantly organic food through cooperative ownership
Mein Grundeinkommen e.V. – Non-profit deploying a participatory structure and Holacracy, leveraging crowdfunding
On Purpose Berlin – Social enterprise that trains and develops purpose-driven leaders
Regionalwert AG Franken – Uses citizen shares to foster regional organic farms, food processing, retail and catering businesses
robinhood.store Berlin – Organic supermarket with 1,000+ community members, where all profits are allocated to combating global poverty and climate change
SEKEM Group & egyptian biodynamic association ebda – An Egyptian ecosystem for regenerative and biodynamic agriculture
Sonnentor – Austrian business specialising in 100% organic herbs, spices, and teas, built on fair partnerships with local and global producers
The Generation Forest – A cooperative that enables its members to make a long-term, ‘nature positive’ investment in climate protection
WEtell.Mobilfunk – Steward-owned business pioneering sustainable mobile communications by generating renewable energy
Wigwam eG i.L. – Cooperatively owned communications agency deploying self-organisation, and focused on just and self-determined life for all on a healthy planet
Wildling Shoes – Shoe producer deploying circularity principles and deep partnerships in production
WILDPLASTIC® – Steward-owned business re-integrating 'wild plastic' into the recycling system
WoodenValley gGmbH – Steward-owned business deploying Cradle-to-Cradle principles in the construction industry
