Today marks the next chapter of The Goat Agency as we become part of WPP.
Wow, I actually just wrote that.
7 and a half years ago Arron Shepherd, Nick Cooke and I started Goat in a tiny office in Shoreditch with a dream to disrupt the media and marketing industry with a form of marketing that we believed would be the next big thing. It’s since become clear that was a decent bet.
Influencer marketing as a medium has come an awfully long way since then and we at Goat have been fortunate enough to be at the cutting edge of it throughout its astronomic rise. From teaching influencers what an invoice was in 2015 to travelling the world with the biggest brands and influencers activating jaw dropping campaigns - I’ve seen it all.
I also think back to the 400 straight days which we vlogged our business and showed the world what we were doing. Those 400 videos are incredibly special to me and mark a very key phase of our growth as a business. I will look upon those now even fonder as it becomes clear what the business has accomplished.
I’m not just proud of what our business has managed to achieve, not just of how much the whole industry has moved on, but mainly of our incredibly talented team. A group of inspirational winners who have pioneered an industry and taken our business to the point where, 2 years ago, Inflexion were compelled to be a part of the journey and now the most powerful marketing group in the world are proud to list us as one of their businesses.
James Stevens, David Collins and Tom Pemberton - thank you for the impeccable support. You delivered on your promises throughout our relationship with Inflexion.
I’m excited for the next chapter of Goat. We are positioned to continue to push the boundaries of the industry, even more so now we’re inside a marketing powerhouse. Ready to do things differently like we always have. Ready for more years of hard work and disruption.
I was 20 when we started the business; young, inexperienced, foolish and having never run an agency before.
Today, on acquisition day, I’m 28 and arguably still young, inexperienced and foolish but no one can argue the agency journey we’ve been on.
To everyone who has supported us on this journey, thank you. There’s too many to name individually.
To Arron and Nick - we did it!
