Despite ambitious #sustainability goals, #infrastructure planning and development still fall behind. Infrastructures are more than technical assetsโtheyโre shaped by institutions, practices, and long-term investments. This review brings together insights from #energy, #water, and #mobility to explore how infrastructure and sustainability transitions co-evolveโand where new synergies, or persistent gaps, remain.

We systematically analyzed 97 studies to explore how infrastructure and sustainability transitions influence each other. Using a dual lens, we identified six key themes: infrastructure influences transitions through #lockins or #integration; while transitions shape infrastructure via #product #innovations and #process #transformations. Additionally, we examined how both dynamics are managed across

Future research should ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐บ ๐ถ๐ป ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐: the overlooked space where coordination happens in and between infrastructureโand where capacities in knowledge, skills, and collaboration must be strengthened to drive real change.
I want to thank my amazing co-authors, Paul Chan, Dr. Daan Schraven and Martijn Leijten whose invaluable feedback and support helped structure this study.
