You don’t just meet heroes on battlefields.
Sometimes, you meet them in airports.
While traveling recently, I came across a group of men whose presence made the world feel still for a moment.
They weren’t influencers.
They weren’t celebrities.
They were legends.
Charles Cram – Navy, age 99
→ Silver Star. Corpsman. Saved Marines under fire on Iwo Jima.
Patrick Zilliacus – Navy, age 98
→ Submariner. USS Spot. Silent strength beneath the waves.
Delmar D. Beard - Navy | Army , age 98
→ Fought in three major wars WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
Joseph Caminiti – USMC, age 100
→ Gunner. Landed at Iwo Jima. Watched the flag rise.
Edward Cavallini – USMC, age 101
→ Platoon leader. Wounded twice. Still standing tall.
They weren’t going on vacation.
They were going back to Iwo Jima.
One final time.
They didn’t ask for recognition.
They 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗗 it.
We owe everything
to the people who gave us everything.
- No complaints.
- No regrets.
- Just legacy.
You don’t meet heroes every day.
But when you do.
You don’t forget.
These men have made sacrifices most of us will never understand.
They’ve seen more than most could ever bear.
And yet they show up.
With grace.
With humility.
With courage.
Honor doesn’t fade.
It passes forward.
This is what men of legend look like!
Oh—and the biggest lesson I took home?
“Keep moving.”
That’s what Joseph Caminiti, 100 years old and still standing tall in the picture, told me.
He works out. He stays active.
Because the body follows the mindset.
Now that’s the kind of wisdom you don’t get from books but through example!
