I sacrificed my mental health for pay.

I thought I could excuse toxic workplaces if I got paid well.

And miserable days turned into miserable months.

Until I realized it was time to call it quits.

While I tried to have my next job lined up, sometimes you donโ€™t have that luxury.

Because hereโ€™s the reality:

โœ”๏ธ Companies can lay off & fire you
โœ”๏ธ Loved ones need caretaking
โœ”๏ธ Priorities & people change

And so many more factors.

Thatโ€™s why I would choose a healthy workplace over any salary increase.

Your mental health is more important than any paycheck.
__

5 Signs of Healthy Workplaces:

โ˜๏ธ 1/ Being paid fairly

โœŒ๏ธ 2/ Having a voice in the workplace

๐ŸคŸ 3/ Transparent and open communication

๐Ÿ–– 4/ Having a manager who has your best interests

๐Ÿ–๏ธ 5/ Flexible time off and remote work (without the guilt)

A salary increase makes you happy once a year.

A healthy culture keeps you healthy every day. Repost to spread the word ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Imposter syndrome is a silent killer.

5 tips to beat your imposter syndrome (and change your life)

You might be telling yourself:

โ€ข โ€œIโ€™m not good enoughโ€
โ€ข โ€œI always do X.โ€
โ€ข โ€œIโ€™m too quiet.โ€

These are examples of negative self-talk (not rooted in facts).

If you want to improve, you have to do the hard things.

Examples:

- Want to be a better public speaker? Go give a presentation.
- Want to be a program manager? Run various projects in your job.
- Want to be a content creator? Start posting three days a week.

Feedback is the only way to know your shortcomings.

And it doesnโ€™t always come from others; it can come from you.

Do a retro at the end of the week. (What went well? Didnโ€™t? What are the learnings for next time?)
Ask friends/colleagues (What can I do more of? What can I do less of?)

Those with a growth mindset find sources of self-worth outside of work.

Detach from work and invest in things that align with your values:

โ€ข Relationships
Interesting projects
Community services
Activities that spark joy

Once you hear your fixed mindset, you can rewire your brain.

By adding โ€œโ€ฆYetโ€ you powerfully reframe.

โ€œIโ€™m not a great leaderโ€ฆyetโ€
โ€œIโ€™m not in my dream jobโ€ฆyetโ€
โ€œIโ€™m not a very good writerโ€ฆyetโ€

Imposter syndrome is a silent killer.

Here are 4 ways to dare greatly ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

(inspired by Brene Brown)

โ˜๐Ÿผ Get comfortable being uncomfortable

Share your fears or mistakes with someone you trust.

Stop striving for perfection but aim for progress instead (โ€Iโ€™m not perfect but Iโ€™m enoughโ€)

โ†ณ Remind yourself: being imperfect doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re incapable.

โœŒ๐Ÿผ Name it to tame it

โ†ณ Say it out loud: โ€œI feel like an imposter Sally right now.โ€ Acknowledge the emotion vs letting it silently grow.

โ†ณ Journal about whatโ€™s triggering your fear + ask: โ€œIs this fact, or fear?โ€

Talk to a colleague or mentor. Youโ€™ll likely hear, โ€œMe too.โ€

๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿผ Focus on growth > perfection

Treat mistakes as feedback for growth. Itโ€™s about failing FORWARD.

โ†ณ Instead of asking, โ€œAm I good enough?โ€ ask, โ€œWhat can I learn from this?โ€

๐Ÿ––๐Ÿผ Remember: Worth โ‰  achievements

Write down 3 things you value about yourself that have nothing to do with work.

Celebrate small wins (they count just as much as the big ones).

Practice self-love. Do 1 thing that sparks joy daily (reading, running, meditation).

So please stop telling yourself youโ€™re not good enough. Growth happens when you do the things that make you uncomfortable <3

๐Ÿ“Œ I talk about leveling up your 9-to-5, building a fulfilling business, and designing a life on your terms.

I donโ€™t believe in dream jobs.

But I believe in healthy workplaces.

๐ŸŸข 5 Green Flags of Healthy Workplaces

1/ Quality of Life is Celebrated

Offering flexible work arrangements, generous PTO, and wellness perks

2/ Having a Life Beyond Work is Expected

Encourages breaks, disconnects after hours, and pursues personal passion projects/side hustles

3/ Taking Time Off for Mental Health is Encouraged

Allows employees to take time off for mental health reasons without judgment.

4. Psychological Safety

Employees feel comfortable sharing their opinions, concerns, and ideas without fear of judgment

5/ Recognition & Appreciation

They recognize contributions and incentivize people with raises, bonuses, impactful projects, and flexibility

When praying for a job, also pray for a culture that won't lead to burnout, anxiety, and stress ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ Repost if you agree.

Introverts love remote work.

I realized Iโ€™m much more productive WFH.

No more dealing with:

- Office distractions
- Endless meetings
- Commuting

Iโ€™ve traded it for:

- Flexibility
- A quiet mind
- A healthier body

The truth is that people operate at their best in an environment that works for them.

It can be hybrid, in-office, or entirely remote.

For many introverts like me, itโ€™s a dream lifestyle.

And with tools likeย Fathom - AI Meeting Assistant, an AI note-taker that fully transcribes & summarizes my meetings, Iโ€™ve never been more productive and present working remotely.

Remote work isnโ€™t just a new way of working.

Itโ€™s a new way of living. Repost if you love remote work ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

What I learned about life.

Itโ€™s not meant to be easy.

Itโ€™s hard, uncomfortable, even painful at times.

Hereโ€™s what I mean:

โ†ณ I was bullied growing up.

I was fired from a job I loved.

I lost my mom to cancer when I was 25.

I couldโ€™ve stayed angry but I chose to start over.

And by giving myself another โ€˜do overโ€™:

โœ”๏ธ I found the love of my life (I made the first move)

โœ”๏ธ I built a 6-figure business doing what I love

โœ”๏ธ I landed dream jobs at dream companies

โœ”๏ธ I have amazing friends & mentors

Itโ€™s never too late to start over.

But it can be too late to stay STUCK.

Because hereโ€™s the truth:

Thereโ€™s always an opportunity cost.

A toxic partner can cost your peace.

A bad boss can cost your mental health.

A job with no growth can drain your potential.

So, whatโ€™s the cost of you staying exactly where you are?

Could you be happier? healthier? wealthier?

Whatโ€™s 1 hard thing you can do today that your future self with thank you for?

The only person that needs to believe in you, is YOU ๐Ÿ’™

P.S. If you're ready for a career refresh, join my PM Accelerator.

It's a 5-week program to help you land your next Program Manager role and become wealthier, happier and (finally) THRIVE on the job.

The secret to employee retention?

Itโ€™s not just about benefits or fancy perks.

Itโ€™s about Culture.

Here are 4 Culture Green ๐ŸŸข Flags:

1/ โ˜๐Ÿผ Quality of Life is Celebrated

Offering flexible work arrangements, generous PTO, and wellness perks.

2/ โœŒ๐Ÿผ Having a Life Beyond Work is the Norm

Encourages breaks, disconnects after hours, and pursues personal passion projects/side hustles.

3/ ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿผย Taking Time Off for Mental Health is Encouraged

Allows employees to take time off for mental health reasons without judgment.

Leaders also lead by example.

4/ ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿผ Psychological Safety

Employees feel comfortable sharing their opinions, concerns, and ideas without fear of judgment.

Losing great talent will cost you WAY more than cultivating the RIGHT culture where people can thrive.

Because when good people leave, your business loses more than just an employee.

Whatโ€™s another green flag? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

I know Program Managers who used to be:

- A college dropout
- Office Manager
- Military officer
- Consultant
- Translator
- Producer
- Designer
- Engineer
- Analyst
- Teacher

And so many more from untraditional backgrounds.

Donโ€™t let job descriptions paralyze you.

Here is what (actually) matters:

โœ… Guiding teams to accomplish a shared goal
โœ… Navigating and driving change that sticks
โœ… Effectively holding people accountable
โœ… Leading projects from start to finish
โœ… Measuring and articulating impact
โœ… Ability to influence without authority

You are NOT a program manager because of your TITLE.

You ARE a program manager because of your ACTIONS.

This is how I went from a Customer Success Manager to a Program Manager without starting over.

Remember to focus on impact vs titles. Repost if you agree ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

You got this ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ.

P.S. I shared my favorite resume tips in my newsletter (and how you can land a Program Manager role WITHOUT the title) by leveraging key impact metrics.

Your job title doesnโ€™t matter as much as you think.

Letโ€™s say you want to pivot to a program manager role:

Here is what actually matters:

โœ… Guiding teams to accomplish a shared goal

You are NOT a program manager because of your TITLE.

You ARE a program manager because of your ACTIONS.

This is how I went from a Customer Success Manager to a Program Manager without starting over (or a PMP).

Quiet is not weak.

Many people get this wrong about introverts.

Weโ€™re not anti-social. We donโ€™t hate being around people.

We just love being at peace.

Weโ€™re actually extremely extroverted around the right people ๐Ÿคซ

So how can leaders nurture quiet talent on their teams?

4 simple phrases can make all the difference ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

โ˜๐Ÿผ โ€œI value your perspective.โ€

Let them know their voice matters.

โœŒ๐Ÿผ โ€œTake your time to think about it.โ€

Respect their need to process info and give thoughtful responses.

๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿผ โ€œI appreciate your thoughtful input.โ€

Acknowledge the power of their quiet contributions.

๐Ÿ––๐Ÿผ โ€œHow do you like to be recognized?โ€

Ask how they prefer to be celebrated (without assuming)

Whatโ€™s #5? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

Letโ€™s stop rewarding people for dominating discussions and value a quiet voice.

Being quiet is a superpower, not a weakness.

PS If youโ€™re ready to grow in your PM career as a quiet yet INFLUENTIAL leader: to land a strategic role, increase your impact and income, and feel confident doing itโ€ฆ

I wish all recruiters were like this.

My friend interviewed someone who was unemployed for over 1 year.

She saw their resume, believed she was a good fit and reached out.

She didn't drill them into their career gaps and why they were still looking.

Instead, she spoke with compassion and let them share their own story.

As a result, she advanced to the next round despite having several career gaps and an imperfect resume.

Life happens to everyone.

Let's lead with empathy and treat candidates with compassion ๐Ÿ’™
__

4 Ways You Can Lead With Kindness

1/ Provide constructive feedback

What could've sounded better in their interviews?
โ†’ Example: โ€œReframe from saying 'we' accomplished X to 'I' did Y to show YOUR impact.โ€œ

โœŒ๏ธ 2/ Provide a LinkedIn recommendation

โ†’ โ€œHey, I know youโ€™re currently on the job hunt, and I wanted to give you a glowing recommendation. Hope it helps.โ€

๐ŸคŸ 3/ Share job leads using this template:

10 years ago, I was in a job I hated

Toxic bosses, high turnover, & poor company culture.

Thanks to Rob Dance for this quote ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

No matter how hard I worked, I wasn't ever good enough.

I tried to stick it out but was fired in under 1 year.

I was crushed. I never thought Iโ€™d be able to get back up.

10 years later, Iโ€™ve worked at dream companies like LinkedIn, Meta, and Figma.

I led incredibly impactful projects, 5X my salary, and worked with world-class leaders.

The lesson?

NEVER give up. You can turn each rejection and redirect it into something better.

Regardless of the situation, I ALWAYS bet on myself.

Because if not you, then who?

Never let a toxic workplace or person define your worth.

Only YOU define your worth.

Betting yourself is one of the best investments you can make.

__

6 questions to ask if you're in the right place ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

1/ Am I challenged?

2/ Am I learning & growing?

3/ Do I feel like I can make an impact?

4/ Do I align with the values of the company?

5/ Am I being valued & recognized for my work?

6/ Do I enjoy working with my team and my boss?

Remember what your non-negotiables are (and never settle for less).

Choose yourself daily ๐Ÿ’™

How are you choosing yourself today?

Great managers can make (or break your career).

Iโ€™ve grown so much from amazing managers.

Which is why working for the right leader is a non-negotiable for me.

๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ 10 Questions to Ask Your Future Boss:

1. How do you like to provide and receive feedback?

2. How do you personally measure success for your team?

3. What are some of the biggest rewards of working on this team?

4. How do you empower your team to take ownership of their work?

5. How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance, and how do you promote it?

6. What learning resources have you found valuable in your career development?

7. Can you tell me about a recent win you're proud of and how the team contributed?

8. Can you tell me about a recent team challenge and how you guided them through it?

9. What qualities do you value most in your team, and how do you foster those qualities?

10. Can you tell me about a time you had to make a difficult decision? How did you approach it, and what was the outcome?

Remember, interviewing is a two-way street.

The biggest career perk is a manager who invests in you.

Having a good boss is a blessing ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Quiet is not ๐Ÿšซ weak.

Most people think introverts are anti-social, too shy, and not โ€˜leadership material.

I saw loud voices get recognized, land promotions, and get a seat at the table.

But hereโ€™s the truth: Quiet voices have the loudest minds.

Thatโ€™s why Linda Le๐ŸŒป and I hosted an IRL Introvert Creatives Meetup at SXSWโ€” and wow the feedback was MORE than we ever expected.

โ€œI feel SO seen.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know why we havenโ€™t had this before.โ€

โ€œThank you so much for creating a safe space for us. Please do it again!โ€

We even ran a fun poll: โ€œWhatโ€™s your biggest pet peeve as an INTROVERT?โ€

Drumroll please ๐Ÿฅ. . .

โ˜๐Ÿผ Ice breakers (or being called on)
โœŒ๐Ÿผ Forced conversations
๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿผ No downtime

And because we KNOW how it feels to be drained by most networking events, we designed the meetup differently:

โœ…ย Warm welcome

A personal hello to each attendee + optional facilitation of convos

โœ… No forced interactions

Space to simply exist, enjoy, and engage on your terms

โœ…ย Intentional breaks

Time to recharge or continue meaningful conversations

This meetup was was proof that introverts donโ€™t need to change.

We just need spaces designed for the way we thrive.

Being quiet is a superpower, not a weakness ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ repost if you agree ๐Ÿฉต

P.S. If you came out, thank you SO much for reminding us that being quiet is a strength (thereโ€™s nothing wrong with us!)

What are people asking you about?
What skills/talents come naturally for you vs others?

I became a career coach for Program Managers because people were asking me how I did it and if I could coach them.

This gave me the confidence to help people and recognize my value.

โ†’ Whatโ€™s a bare-bones product you can immediately launch?
Example: start a 1-1 coaching business, create a newsletter, share free guides, run free/paid masterclasses, etc.

I shared one post on LinkedIn announcing that I was taking coaching clients, added a Calendly link, and booked out for two weeks.

Little did I know, this was JUST the beginning.

What are the 20% of tasks resulting in 80% of impact?
What systems/tools can streamline the most time-consuming tasks?

โœ”๏ธ Client onboarding (I used HoneyBook)
โœ”๏ธ Accounting/bookkeeping (I hired bookkeepers and a CPA)
โœ”๏ธ Library of resources (I used Canva, Google Docs, Notion, and reccomend Teachable!)

I realized 1-1 coaching was unsustainable, so I ran a group cohort.

This allowed me to go from 1-1 to 1-many, 10X my income, and preserve my bandwidth.

โ†’ Ship it before itโ€™s perfect, learn and then iterate
Execution over perfect strategy

I never waited for a perfect moment to launch coaching, guides, newsletter, etc.

I really love Teachable because theyโ€™re helping creators like me turn my passion into profit (and yes, while juggling a 9-to-5).

And you can, too.

There will always be someone who can't see your worth. Don't let it be YOU.

Quiet isnโ€™t a weakness.

Iโ€™ve had managers who told me I should be more like my coworkers and speak up more.

I was shamed for being too quiet and โ€˜appearโ€™ not confident enough.

Then, I had compassionate leaders who didnโ€™t try to change me.

They gave me space to collect my thoughts at my own speed.

And this made a huge difference in my mental health, confidence and productivity.

Itโ€™s easy to judge someone and put people in a rigid box.

But it takes a kind and compassionate leader to recognize someoneโ€™s talent and bring out the best in them.

Leadership is about actions.

Great leaders create the right environment for a person to truly thrive ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Never let someone shame you for being too quiet.

Being quiet is your superpower ๐Ÿ’™

You are 100% replaceable (at work)

Iโ€™ve seen friends and family get laid off.

They worked for the best companies, such as Google, LinkedIn, and Meta.

They lost jobs regardless of their performance, tenure, title, or level.

It makes you realize that work can only be so important in your life.

Because at the end of the day, the company will move on.

So donโ€™t tie your identity to your job.

Instead, invest in those that wonโ€™t (and canโ€™t) replace you ๐Ÿ’™.

Remember to:

โœ…ย Take that vacation.
โœ…ย Attend your kidโ€™s recital.
โœ…ย Celebrate your anniversary.
โœ…ย Attend your friendโ€™s wedding.
โœ…ย Take your parents to the doctorโ€™s.
โœ…ย Do what you need to do (outside of work).

Prioritize what truly matters because you only have one life to live.

You are replaceable at work.

But your loved ones will never replace you.

Hey, Iโ€™m Jean Kang and Iโ€™m a job hopper ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ.

Contrary to most HR standards, candidates who job hop (who leave after 1 year) are considered red flags.

Then I guess Iโ€™m the biggest red flag because Iโ€™ve had 8 jobs in 9 years.

Iโ€™ve been told that I shouldnโ€™t leave my job for a new one.

But the benefits outweighed everything in terms of:

โœ… Salary
โœ… Mental health
โœ… Work-life balance

Job hopping was the best thing I couldโ€™ve done for my career and myself.

At the end of the day, companies are going to do whatโ€™s best for them.

So you should do whatโ€™s best for you.

PS Yesterday, I shared my actual salary and growth for all of my 7 jobs (and quadrupled my salary in 9 years)ย https://lnkd.in/e3xEtvBd

The best investment I ever made wasnโ€™t in a job or coach, it was in my partner.

We celebrated 3 years of being married (and 5 years together) ๐Ÿฅน

Hereโ€™s why heโ€™s my ultimate secret weapon:

1. โ˜๐Ÿผ Heโ€™s my biggest cheerleader

He literally celebrates every milestone with me (every new follower, sale closed, brand deal, etc.)

This motivates me to work harder and actually *look forward* to sharing my wins.

2. โœŒ๐Ÿผ Gives me honest and loving feedback

He doesnโ€™t talk much, but when he does, I *listen*.

His words carry *weight* because I know theyโ€™re coming from a place of deep love and support.

We both have ZERO ego (which makes it easier to grow, together)

3. ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿผ We are a team

We make every decision side by side. We donโ€™t assume or keep score.

We communicate + lead with transparency.

(yes, even when I accidentally hit his car and took full responsibility ๐Ÿ™Š).

4. ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿผ He grounds me

I can spiral into overthinking, FOMO, and analysis paralysis.

He brings me back to what matters: peace, joy, and rest.

He reminds me that *Iโ€™m enough* even when I havenโ€™t โ€œdone enough.โ€

5. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ Heโ€™s my safe place

In a world that constantly asks me to prove, perform, and push harder

Heโ€™s my reminder that Iโ€™m already loved, already worthy, already home.

After any difficult day, I can come to him and know Iโ€™m where I need to be ๐Ÿ’™

You donโ€™t have to choose between success *and* love.

You just have to choose someone who can hold both with you.

To the real MVP in my corner, my hubby - thank you.

I wouldnโ€™t be who I am without you.

So if you're choosing a partner, think like a CEO:

โ†ณ Do they align with your core values?
Do they make your life *better*, not harder?
Do they bring strengths that balance and elevate yours?
Do they believe in *you*โ€” not just your potential or success?
Can you navigate hard conversations with honesty and grace?

Tag the partner whoโ€™s your ride or die ๐Ÿซถ

I would tag him but he doesnโ€™t want attention ๐Ÿคฃ

P.S. We went on a blissful vacation to Korea (my motherland) and came back with more life lessons I could imagine.

Here are 10 unexpected life lessons I learned in just 10 days about living a more โ€˜meaningfulโ€™ life.

Work-life balance looks different for everyone.

Itโ€™s about creating a lifestyle that works for YOU.

5 ways I find balance โš–๏ธ

1/ Define What โ€œEnoughโ€ Looks Like

Set a clear stop point so you know when to rest
Example: Work on priority 3 items for the day

2/ Create โ€œNo-Workโ€ Zones

No work before 8 AM. No emails after dinner (block these off)
Boundaries protect both your time and your energy.

3/ Donโ€™t Glorify the Hustle

โ†ณ Doing more doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re achieving more.
Make time for things outside of work that spark joy (ex. date nights, hobbies, going on vacation)

Work will always be there.

4/ Delegate & Outsource Tasks

Hire a VA/Interns to help you automate low-impact tasks like emails, design work, and data cleanup.
Identify tools to help you automate using tools like Zapier

Ask yourself, whatโ€™s your time worth?

5/ Treat Rest Like a Priority, Not a Reward

โ†ณ You donโ€™t need to โ€œearnโ€ time off.
Prioritize rest and create 1-2 hours / day to create tech-free breaks.

When you rest, you operate at your best.

Remember, life looks different for everyone.

Give yourself grace to live in harmony vs perfect balance.

How do you find balance in your life?
