It’s not every day I am able to announce the very first flight of a new airline. Yet as of now, Lufthansa City Airlines - as part of Lufthansa Airlines - has taken to the skies across Europe! ✈️🇪🇺
Today, the first flight took off at 9.10 am with the flight number VL2508. The “Juliet-India”, an A320neo, was heading from Munich to Birmingham. Dusseldorf, Cologne, Hanover and Bremen will follow. The second aircraft, an A319, will fly to Bordeaux, Hamburg and Berlin. After the first five aircraft of the Airbus A320 family, the fleet will be expanded to at least eight more A320neo and further A319s. Delivery of the 40 new aircraft of the fuel-efficient Airbus A220-300 type ordered will start in 2026. So, if you are up for modern and efficient aircraft, and a LH proven customer experience – go and enjoy your flight with the brand new Lufthansa City Airlines!
Why a new airline? The inner-European market is growing, and we want to be part of it: Being a hub- and spokes-system, we need mid- and short-haul traffic to fill our long-range aircraft. Yet it is a tough market which we tackle with strong and flexible operation platforms with competitive structures. Lufthansa City Airlines is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group and has been built up over the last two years by a fantastic project team with colleagues from Lufthansa CityLine, Lufthansa Airlines and the Group. Just like Air Dolomiti, Discover Airlines and CityLine, Lufthansa City Airlines is part of the Lufthansa Airlines division.
Welcome to our family, Lufthansa City Airlines!
