We've forgotten that resumes = people. With families.

Here's what to do about it, now

These are all true:

1. Hiring is about finding the right person for the role ✨
2. Hiring is about treating people with respect šŸ¤
3. Hiring reflects your culture 🌟

I'm not an HR expert. But I'm pretty good with parents and understanding their challenges in the modern workforce. šŸ’Ŗ

Imagine this:
You're 43 years old, dedicated parent to Mikey (6) and Bella (2) and you've applied to >150 roles in the past year.

You got a first interview for 80 of those roles! Amazing!Ā
90% of these were on Zoom.Ā
You took the calls from home.Ā
The kids were in the other room.Ā
And...

You got a second interview for 50% of those roles. That's 40 more interviews! 🌟
But...

37 of them asked you to come into the office for the next interview - completely legit. Only thing is: 35 of them sent you time slots which are all:

- When you drop Mikey off at school (he just started 1st grade and is having some trouble adjusting) šŸŽ’
or
- When it's your time to look after Bella (she's dealing with standard terrible two tantrums) šŸ‘¶

So now you have to reach out to all 35 workplaces and ask for a different time slot. 32 don't answer (that's ghosting) šŸ‘». 3 Do answer and you set a new time.

Now you have 8 in-office interviews to go (trust me I counted).

That's 8 times you and your partner have to figure out that day with the kids because your partner is working full time. ā°
-----------------------------------
By now you get where this is going.

So, make sure your HR personnel understand the reality of being parent candidate.

Because the truth is - most HR personnel ARE NOT PARENTS themselves. šŸ’”

Remember that the only way to measure character is over time. Not at a one-off call, meeting or assignment.

Give people a chance. 🌟
Give parents an equal chance. ✨
