As an entrepreneur and team leader, I don't care:
• Where my team works from
• If they work less than 40 hours
• If they don't share minuscule updates

But I do care:
- That my team is enjoying their work
- That they have a good work/life balance
- That they know the organisation is there for them on good & bad days

I build my team basis their skills and efficiency, which I trust. How much can a team member do if you don't trust them to do their job in ways that work for them?

So excited to finally share the news of my new promotion. I admit I kept it under wraps since I first received the offer letter, but I’m finally ready to share the news with you all.

I’m going to be - A MOM soon!
Needless to say, I’m very excited (and also a little nervous) about meeting the new managment. Wish me luck!

Oh boy, was I wrong about maternity leave. I thought I was finally taking a break after a decade. I was so excited. And while I technically was on a break from work that I considered ‘work'... I was suddenly handed the most important job in the world.

Where each day was exhausting, confusing and overwhelming. Where each day brought in a new episode of self doubt. The epitome of paradoxes. So much pain and so much joy. I'm privileged to have so much help around me and yet, I've never felt more alone. It was a new battle everyday. And yet, at the end of that battle was the sweetest victory I've ever tasted.

There's two things my maternity leave has taught me. Firstly, whether it's about motherhood, work, or life in general, it's to take things one day at a time. And secondly... women. I find it hard to find the words but I am so privileged to be a woman. To be born to one. To be surrounded by so many. The respect is truly unparalleled. 🙏🏼

The #1 question I’ve been asked since I’ve had my baby is - “How’s life as a working mom?”
But, not once has my husband been asked the question - “How’s life as a working dad?”

This got me thinking about the existence of this term and what it subliminally represents:

• The term 'working mom' reinforces the stereotype that women are primarily responsible for childcare and when men do take on caregiving responsibilities - they are often praised for 'helping out' or 'babysitting', which is something that they should do as a parent.

• The term 'working mom' also implies that motherhood and career are inherently at odds and that a woman's decision to work outside the home is somehow exceptional - and not what can be expected.

• But the truth is, parenting is a shared responsibility, and when one parent is unavailable, the other steps in. Why then, do we need to differentiate between 'working moms' and 'working dads'?

I think it’s time to say goodbye to the term ‘working mom’ and recognize the equal role that both parents play in raising their children.

Would love to know everyone’s thoughts on what we can do to get rid of this outdated label.
