Itās already been a huge week for us at Google, with the announcement of our new experimental conversational AI service, Bard - and today Iām excited to be in ParisĀ š«š·š„ sharing how AI is helping us to take many of your favourite Google products to the next level.
My favourite tool that Google offers is Translate. Over 150 billion words are translated on the platform every day: and the three most commonly used phrases are āthank youā, āhow are youā, and āI love youā. Itās such a beautiful example of how people can connect - building bridges where there used to be language barriers. Since February 2022, weāve seen translations of Ukrainian to other languages soar, as displaced Ukrianians seek refuge across Europe, and look to find support and connection in new communities. Translate now has over 100 languages online - and, using the power of AI, weāre now working to reach 1,000.
Today we shared some other ways that weāre using AI to make our services even more helpful for billions of people, and take many of your favourite Google products to the next level:
ā”ļø Weāre making Search even more intuitive and natural. You can already use Google Lens - which lets you search what you see, straight out of your camera or pictures - right from the Search bar, with more than 10 billion uses every month. Now weāre making it even easier to āsearch your screenā on Android through Assistant globally: so that you can search what you see in photos or videos across the websites and apps you know and love, without having to leave the app or experience.
ā”ļø And weāre introducing multisearch across the world - so that you can search with a picture and text at the same time. Soon, youāll even be able to add ānear meā - making it easier than ever to find what you want, how, and where you need it.
ā”ļø Search isnāt the only tool getting an update. On Maps, weāre rolling out immersive view - which uses AI and computer vision to give you a feel for a place, before you visit: as well as sharing info on the weather, traffic and how busy it is.
ā”ļø We're launching Live View on maps too - which uses AI and augmented reality to help you find things around you - like ATMs, restaurants, parks and transit stations: just by lifting your phone while youāre on the street.
ā”ļø Those arenāt the only upgrades Maps is getting. Weāre also introducing cool new features like indoor Live View, help you navigate tricky places like airports, train stations and malls, and more features for EV drivers that have Google built-in.
Iām really excited for this next step in our AI journey - combining both our forward looking ambitions, and how weāre using AI to improve the tools you already have in your pocket.
