If there’s one thing this job market has taught us, it’s this:

Don’t wait to build a network until you need to.

People can smell the desperation…

And most will be disinclined to help you.
↳ Because you’re a total stranger to them.

And you’ve heard it before, but it bears repeating:

People do business with people they know, like, and trust.

That’s why it’s crucial to start building your network long before your time of need.

And it doesn’t have to be time-consuming, either.

Aim to reach out and nurture 5 new contacts a week.

A simple DM, text, or email will suffice.

Doing this has helped me gain trust and goodwill.

Start to build a network that's likely to help before you need it.
