Big MISTAKE.
Loyal employees are often treated worse because they are loyal and thus would not go anywhere. Big mistake. Just because someone is loyal does not mean they can't reach a point of no return. Loyal people quit before they resign, when they had enough. Never push loyal people to the point where they don't care. Think twice about losing them because your own future depends on them. Short post which explains why:

48 people got HIRED.
You could be the next !
Here is how.

Write a short post about yourself, or post CV/resume.
Use hashtag #oleg so I and my network of 1.7M can easily find it. We will give your post visibility. Or you can simply put a comment here- “interested“ and a like. In our network there are 250,000 recruiters !

48 is just the count of those who sent me happy inmails.

It works because there are so many people who want to help you. Because we know what it is like to get rejection after rejection after rejection.

Here is why we do it.

We really don't need a reason to help others. But if one needs a reason, it is this one. It just feels good !

When I made it my mission to help others, which I did purely by logic at the time, I became a much happier person.

Takers eat better, givers sleep better.

Kindness is the best strategy in life !

Looking for a job ? Follow me. Not because I am amazing, I am very ordinary. But because recruiters tag me with job postings. Whenever I see a job posting, I share it with my network.
I also think everyone should be sharing job announcements. It takes a second, but may change someone's life.
That's what LinkedIn is for !

When you REJECT a CANDIDATE, don't hurt their chances of getting another job.
   1. Tell the RECRUITER all the strong points you saw in the candidate

   2. Give the candidate an advice on the resume and the interview. It does not cost anything to be nice

  3. Get back to the candidate quickly

  4. If you know someone else who may need them, why not help both sides.

On the last point, early in my career, someone told me they dont need me but made a call to another place (a restaurant) and recommended me there. I got the job and I can never forget the woman who helped me.
And I still remember the name of her restaurant, the one that rejected me, fondly.

Be someone who people remember.

The INTERVIEW came to an end, and I knew I am not going to get the job. To my SURPRISE, the hiring manager picked up a phone and called someone.
He said - “Hi Jay, I have here an excellent candidate here in front of me, not exactly the right fit for my group, but he is exactly what you need for your area.“

Long story short, I got the job in the same company. IBM was then, and still is, full of excellent leaders !

1. If a candidate is not what you need, you may know someone else who does. You are helping your own company, not to mention everyone involved.

2. Weak leaders only think of themselves. Strong leaders think of others.

3. A quick phone call or a short email can change someone's life.

4. Be someone people remember.

HIRING ? Some of my best employees have no degrees. Do not get me wrong, I value education. I just do not value decision making based on education levels.
I hired Joe. He had no degree. His parents did not have money to send him to a university. He stayed behind to work and put his younger sister through college. He was the best project manager I ever had.
I hired Mark, he had military experience, no degree. He was one of the best tech ops managers ever - stellar leadership, exemplary communication and execution.

Hire people, not education levels.
Education doesn't do no work. Real people do.

“I lost my job as part of my company restructuring.“ - writes to me a young woman. She says “I have been contacting recruiters around the globe. No answer from any of them
I am so qualified. What should I do ?“

1. Whatever you do, don't give up hope, faith and optimism. Your time will come.
2. Employers and recruiters who do not respond do not deserve you.
3. Write a post with your qualifications, tag me and people from your network. We will make your post go viral. People to tag: Brett S. Brody Amer Kayyal Adam Danyal
4. Put a like on posts that come in your feed that you like. Recruiters view profiles of people who are active on LinkedIn.
5. Keep knocking on as many doors as you can. That's what LinkedIn is for. I only wish they gave job seekers unlimited emails. But you can comment on recruiter posts for free, with your details !

Keep faith. As long as you have it, you will prevail.

Job seekers and friends, something came up.
I should be back to LI soon, but if I am not back in 3 weeks, know this.
1. You are special. You have the potential. You are unique. You are great.
2. Life is too short not to pursue your dreams and passions. Life is too short to work for someone who does not appreciate your hard work and loyalty.
3. People who don't value you, don't deserve you. We all are creations of the Almighty. He does not make mistakes.
4. No matter how dark it gets, the sunrise is just around the corner. Keep faith.
5. Things are worth nothing. You can't take things to the other side, when your time comes. You can take your good deeds with you.
6. Your hard work, talent and persistence will pay off, I promise.
6. It has been an honour to write for you here on LinkedIn. I hope I will get that honour again.

Destruction done right by professional engineers
7 Signs you should HIRE someone.
You hire them because they are
1) Enthusiastic and positive
2) Adaptable
3) Ask good questions
4) Put skills and knowledge into action
5) Team players
6) Humble and honest
7) Love to learn

NOT IMPORTANT DURING INTERVIEW/HIRING
- Confidence (good people are often modest, and many people are not confident in unfamiliar setting and with people they don’t know)
- Exact match of a job description - people are not square pegs to be fit into square holes; your own requirements will change tomorrow anyway

IRRELEVANT
Age, origin, background, gender, employment status, ethnicity

3 things you don't do

1. Beg for anyone to stay in your life.

2. Beg anyone to respect you.

3. Beg for anyone's attention.

Because you know:

When you feel a need to prove yourself to someone, their inability to see your value says something about them, not you.

Right?
Sending you all my ❤
Have a happy, relaxing and safe weekend, my friends and readers !

Never do on INTERVIEWS these 6 things

Stopping these behaviors is essential !

1) Treating candidates with disrespect – respect goes both ways
2) Not giving the candidates breaks and water
3) Asking candidates personal questions – whatever question you ask, they should be allowed to ask back
4) Grilling them with questions – interview is a professional meeting, not an interrogation. As a meeting, it should be a dialog.
5) Treating candidates like doormats. You want to hire people to work WITH you, NOT FOR you. Partnership with guidance is the best form of leadership.
6) Telling candidates you will get back soon if it is not your intention. It is unprofessional, unkind and unbecoming not to get back.

Tag me when your post needs help, when you are going through tough times, when every door you knock on is locked.
I share job seekers posts with my network. The other day I put a like on a job seeker post. She had 0 likes. Now she has 700+. That's because not only I care, but because my followers care.
And frankly everyone here on LinkedIn should help job seekers.

7 reasons COUNTER-OFFERS do not work
Good people quit before they resign.
More money does not help because:
1. Toxic cultures that make people sick
2. Lack of growth opportunities
3. Company values are preached but not practiced
4. Dishonesty and lack of integrity
5. People get blamed for their boss' mistakes
5. Lack of trust, of respect, of support
6. People are treated like commodities
7. Hard work, loyalty and talents are not appreciated

No amount money is worth getting sick or being miserable.

Good people never work just for the money. They want to be happy to come to work every day.
They want to be surrounded by nice people, just like themselves.
They want to make a positive difference.

♦️For being helpful
♦️For being honest
♦️For being loyal

3 types of PEOPLE to NEVER forget

HR does not have to stand for Human Remains.
HR should stand for Hire Right.
Here is how:
1. Treat candidates with respect and empathy, NOT like cattle.
2. Get back to candidates quickly.
3. Don't look for perfection - nobody is perfect, even those who make hiring decisions.
4. Give everyone a fair chance - those who are over 40, unemployed, with accent, with disabilities, etc. There is no such thing as too many years of experience !

Hire Right. Then you get High Reputation and build Happy Relationships.

That's what HR is all about.

“Oleg, We hired a WRONG WOMAN !
What happened next was unbelievable, as you like to say.
Our HR made a mistake and made an offer to a person who we rejected based on results of her interview. Her name was similar to our ideal candidate.

This “wrong“ person showed up and turned out to be a great worker !

I asked her later about her interview performance, and she simply said that we made her nervous.
I saw your article “Interviews are a waste of time“ https://lnkd.in/eFuhp_T , and it rang so true.“

Some of the best things in life are beautiful mistakes.
I do wonder how many people get rejected this way ? Most people get nervous during interviews, by unfamiliar people and surroundings, by pressure of the interview and some of the questions that get asked.
We need to make candidates comfortable and relaxed, but more importantly focus on the past track record.
PS. please send me stories like this to share in ANONYMIZED fashion. Some of these are pure gold !
