I was broke at 28.

I had just come to Goa. My startup had shut down and I just had 45K in my bank.

But I didn't want to go back to a big city. And work a full time job.

This was pre covid and remote working wasn't a real option. Besides, I wanted — and really needed— to take time off.

In short, I wanted to take a gap year -- but didn't have the money to do it.

So I decided to become a freelancer. Do some work a few hours a day to pay the bills. But I didn't really have any skills that the freelance market cared about.

I did know how to write — and I thought I could be good at it. So content writing is what I did.

But here, no one cared if I had an MBA from XLRI or had been a startup founder.

I started from the absolute bottom — got paid peanuts for some terrible writing gigs.

I spent my 20s building my identity -- a 'branded' MBA, a funded start-up, etc.

And at 28, I started at zero again. I had no career path that I could see — and no future to speak of.

It broke my ego completely -- and I was better for it.

Magic happens when you’re able to let go of who you think you are. And dare to find out who you really are.
